Tiger Woods shot a 65 on Sunday and finished at -12 to win the Memorial, highlighted by shots on holes 11 and 18. Woods started the day four back of the lead, but you knew the field was in trouble when eagled the 11th.
Tiger Tiger Woods y’all.. From there he went on to take a brief lead with a birdie at 15 but gave it back with a bogey on 16. A birdie on 17 put him back up a stroke, and then Woods shut the tournament down (for the most part) with his second shot on 18.
It wasn’t a major, and Tiger won’t really be back until he wins one, but this was big. He walked some guys down for the lead, didn’t miss a fairway all day (only five for the tournament), and he was Tiger in the clutch. He barely missed a chip in for birdie on 14 and put the ball in a bunker on 16 which led to a bogey, but still birdied 15, 17, and 18 to snatch the victory.
Tiger played great golf on Saturday and Sunday after shooting a season worst 74 on Friday. I don’t know if this was a result of the course being suited for Tiger (he’s won there a record four times), simply a good week for the knee, or proof that he’s fully recovered and back to his normal self. We’ll have to wait until Bethpage for the answer.
