The Sports Snob (7th Edition)

The Sports Snob Main

Man, who knew the summer would be so boring for a sports fanatic like me. It should be obvious that while I love multiple sports, I have a preference for the NBA. Things were bad enough for me having to watch the Los Angeles Lakers and their obnoxious fans celebrate, but the prospect of not having a daily fix of NBA news has me in an ultimate withdrawal mode.

The 2010 World Cup gave me a temporary fix, appeasing my sports appetite with a nice run from the U.S. national team, but it also only reminded me that I can’t rely on competent officiating in any major sport. I’m used to bashing the crappy NBA refs but was left dumbfounded with the sheer crappiness of some of the soccer officials. And even that ended with Spain winning and left me suffering again knowing Pau Gasol was busy celebrating a second major win in less than two months. What did I do to deserve this?

Sure there’s been occasional flashes of fun, few more enjoyable than being able to crack jokes and laugh at Kobe Bryant’s horrendous 6-24 (25 percent!) performance in the biggest game of his life (Comparable to Michael Jordan? In the words of Xzibit, B*tch Trick please!), but they’re short lived.

I find myself going to the ESPN and Yahoo! Sports NBA websites several times a day, anxious to get some juicy new updates on something, only to leave in disappointment at the same headlines from a few hours earlier, or even worse, multiple headlines about the same story.

Four stories about two of the same or very similar topics. Sigh, I hate the summer.

I tried finding solace in NBA2K10 on the Xbox360, excited about loading up the live updates on the new NBA rosters and testing out the LeBron/Wade/Bosh Miami Thrice team, only to find out that 2KSports decided to not issue any new roster updates until the release of NBA2K11. Having to sift through all the signings and trades yourself is nowhere near as fun.

I don’t give a crap about the NHL or MLS, the NFL fun won’t start for a while and the 100 degree Southern California weather ruins any pick up games, so here I am stuck bored out my sports-loving mind.

All the drama around the LeBron signing and comments by Jordan and Charles Barkley were promising prospects, but all the mindless chatter from both sides of the dumb fans fence just left me disappointed and angrier.

Guess it’s all left up to NBA players on Twitter to entertain me (pause) for now. Thank God for Ron Artest.
