THAT STORY WILL NOT HOLD UP THIS GAME

There has to be a more appropriate time to interrupt a live news broadcast than during the phrase “raping a 31 year old New York woman”.  Yes the reporter had probably gone over his allotted time, yes the game start time was getting pushed back by a minute or two, but there’s no way in hell that you walk into that shot at that moment.  Even though I think the umpire was wrong, why was the reporter going into a rape story on the field at opening day?

That ump’s not making it to the bigs. I doubt his paycheck is contingent on the game starting at the precise second.

Great minds think alike, my friend…I found this last night and posted it over at Awful Announcing.

The fact that the umpire charged right in like that makes me think that this wasn’t a first time occurrence. The reporter had probably rubbed him the wrong way before and he wasn’t happy about it.

That stupid ump should have realized that he would have saved time, and dignity, to just let the reporter have his 30 seconds instead of having him removed by security which I bet took a lot more than 30 seconds. I have a feeling there will be a couple of “A”s removed from the ump’s cap. The ump should be fired.

I disagree - is no reason to do the report on the field or at least not move off the field to talk about something that has nothing to do with the game - I agree 100% with the ump - this report should have been cut off and done in the stiudio - stupid ass media.

Actually, this guy’s name is Joe Rocco. He was a sports anchor at WJAR in Providence in the 80’s and early 90’s, so he was most definitely talking about sports. He was probably relaying a story about an athlete facing rape charges. (Mike Tyson, perhaps?)

Finding out which one’s the ass depends on the condition of the game. Was it already delayed for hours? Was the reporter not supposed to be there in the first place. I know a lot of media types try to over step their bounds, they can always cut the video to make it look like they’re the hero.

wtf was that, the ump just looked like he needed a helmet and I am not talking about an umps mask. Also what was the reporter doing talking about some rape story on a baseball field.
