Ricky Rubio, the 18-year-old Spanish point guard, may not be joining the NBA for a couple of years if his father is to be believed. After falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the fifth slot, Europe sounds like a better option to Rubio than the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Read the full story

• Second overall pick in the 2003 draft Darko Milicic leaving the NBA for Europe in 2010
Detroit Pistons GM Joe Dumars helped build the team he played for into a perennial championship contender, but he’s made some mistakes along the way. The Allen Iverson trade still has time to work out but so far the numbers say they should’ve kept Chauncey Billups, cap space be damned. The biggest blemish on Joe D’s resume is selecting Darko Milicic over Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh in the 2003 NBA draft.
The Pistons cut their losses after three years with Darko and shipped him off to Orlando. Things didn’t work out in Florida for Milicic and now he plays for the Memphis Grizzlies… Well, he rides the bench for the Grizzlies. And apparently Darko’s getting tired of the splinters and wants to take his career averages of 5.5 points per game and four rebounds back to Europe. Read the full story

• The NBA Commissioner says Europe is no threat to NBA
European basketball teams have lured college player Brandon Jennings and decent NBA player Josh Childress across the ocean, but they won’t make real noise until they pull an NBA superstar. Many people, myself included, believe no legitimate franchise player would leave the NBA for Europe. The reason being, an NBA championship and playing against the best competition in the world means more than some tax free euros and a yacht.
NBA Commissioner David Stern weighed in on the possibility of NBA players defecting for European teams, and of course he doesn’t see it as a viable option. Read the full story
