Vitaminwater makes some of the best sports related commercials on the Internet. David Wright with the Situation from “Jersey Shore” and Steve Nash’s interview with Space Ghost were both great. The company’s latest effort might be their best yet. Gary Busey stars as fantasy sports attorney Norman Tugwater, which should be enough for you to stop reading right and start watching the video. He represents the interests of players like Adrian Peterson, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant and you better pay up unless you want Busey tearing up your crib. Read the full story

The folks in the DirecTV marketing department are either really impressed with Mikhail Prokhorov, the Russian billionaire owner of the New Jersey Nets, or simply enjoy retreading the eccentric, foreign gazillionaire stereotype. Their latest commercial features a man with an Eastern European accent, enjoying golden grapes while dogs play cards and his miniature giraffe chills on the couch. Opulence, he has it. LeBron James, not so much. Read the full story

Steve Nash played soccer in his youth, puts together celebrity soccer games in the NBA offseason and comes from a family that loves the sport so it’s no surprise that he’s fired up for the World Cup. What is shocking is Nash rockin’ the Brandi Chastain sports bra while he sleeps. Even if it’s for Visa. Read the full story

Kobe Bryant hit six game-winning shots during the regular season but his two missed game winners in the playoffs have been more important. The first was a Game 6 miss against the Oklahoma City Thunder that Pau Gasol rebounded and put back with .5 on the clock to give the Lakers the series win. The second gave birth to Ron-Ron’s game winner against the Suns.
Kobe’s late-game performances have some, including Bryant and Vitaminwater, calling him The Closer. Or Kloser. Either way the Kobe haters will say you can’t spell C/Kloser without “loser.” The Kobe Krazies will stick out their thumbs. Read the full story

Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns surprised everybody outside of Arizona by pulling even with the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. Los Suns’ girly zone and desperate hustle carried them to the two victories but they might have had a little intergalactic help as well. Steve Nash hooked up with Space Ghost for an interview and to promote Vitaminwater. Rumor has it he used his powers to make Andrew Bynum disappear. Read the full story

Kevin Durant secured his place as a regular season superstar after becoming the youngest player in NBA history to lead the league in scoring. That’s all good but everybody knows Association legends are made in the postseason. No problem for KD there. His shooting percentage is only 36 percent (down 10 points from his regular season mark) but he’s averaging a double-double through three games at 28 points and 11 rebounds. The Thunder aren’t going to win the series against the Lakers and it doesn’t matter. Durantula and his OKC teammates are getting valuable experience and will be a dangerous team next season.
Durant hasn’t reached his marketing potential yet although I’m betting Nike has a new KD campaign by the end of the summer. He’s appeared in a few spots including an ESPN commercial and Nike’s “Don’t Criticize, Hyperize” video. His most popular ad was his first Nike commercial where he’s shown entering an arena and changing jerseys. I say it’s his most popular because it’s the most imitated by Youtubers. Read the full story

Tiger Woods made a solid comeback to the golf world with an opening round 4-under 68 at The Masters. He’s two shots behind leader Fred Couples and in great position to make a run at another green jacket.
The day was also good for people that like to make fun of Woods and his p-parade. A plane flew over Augusta National carrying banners reading “Tiger did you mean bootyism?“, “Sex Addict? Yeah Right. Sure. Me Too!” and “We miss you Tiger! Deja Vu Showgirls.” The latest meme from the scandal is based around the Nike commercial featuring the voice of Tiger’s father Earl Woods. Deadspin has a collection of parody videos and Stephen Colbert added a few more on The Colbert Report. The father from “Leave it to Beaver” would’ve been an excellent choice for the commercial if they hadn’t dug up the Earl Woods audio. Read the full story
