Matt Bellamy, The LeBron Heat Jersey Guy, Talks

Matt Bellamy, the guy that thought it was a good idea to rock his LeBron James Miami Heat jersey to a Cleveland Indians game at Progressive Field, is talking about his night of infamy. He spoke with Cleveland Frowns before and after being escorted from Progressive and 19 Action News in Ohio tracked him down for an interview. Bellamy, who’s originally from Florida, has all three versions of the LeBron James Miami Heat jersey. I wonder which one he wants to be buried in… Read the full story

Body of Lorenzen Wright Found

Authorities have found the body of former Memphis and NBA player Lorenzen Wright in a wooded-area in southeast Memphis. The 34-year-old Wright was last seen leaving the home of his ex-wife at 2 a.m. on July 19. Police suspect foul play and are investigating a 9-11 call and hangup made from Wright’s cell phone Monday. If Wright’s death is the result of foul play we can only hope that the criminals are quickly brought to justice. R.I.P. Lorenzen. Read the full story

DeMar DeRozan Proves Once a Trojan (for a year), Always a Trojan

DeMar DeRozan played one year of college basketball at USC, leading the team to the 2009 PAC-10 Tournament title, before taking his talents to Toronto and the NBA. One year was long enough for DeRozan to build a hatred for anything that has to do with cross-town rival UCLA. DeRozan worked out on the Bruins campus Tuesday and took to Twitter (@DeMar_DeRozan) immediately afterward to show his cardinal and gold pride. Read the full story

Shaquille O’Neal and Justin Bieber Perform Awful Duet

Shaquille O’Neal is going voice-to-voice against Justin Bieber in the second season of ABC’s “Shaq Vs.” The Big Bieber and the regular one provided a sneak peek of the episode during a Justin concert rehearsal in Phoenix. Shaq should stick to presenting Justin with Teen Choice Awards. Round 1 goes to the lil fella. Read the full story

This Week Shaquille O’Neal Wants To Play for Boston

Shaquille O’Neal wants to end his unemployment by signing on with the Boston Celtics for the 2010-11 season. A couple of weeks ago there was talk of Shaq going to Atlanta. His name has also been mentioned (who knows how seriously?) in connection with San Antonio, Cleveland and New Jersey. Shaq says it’s not about the money. He wants to play somewhere that has a chance to win. Signing with Boston would be putting winning where his mouth is. Read the full story

Average Joes McNabb, TO and Gates Beat Old NBA Players

Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb, San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates and out of work wide receiver Terrell Owens took on former NBA players Hakeem Olajuwon, Kenny Smith and Rick Fox in a game of basketball for Versus’ “Pros vs. Joes.” They should’ve dubbed this episode “In Shape vs. Out of Shape.” The old, out of shape NBA guys combined with TO playing like the winners received NFL contracts added up to a 28-23 overtime win for the Joes. It wasn’t all bad for the Pros. Kenny Smith’s performance will provide laughs for Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley when the NBA on TNT returns to air. Read the full story

The Sports Snob (7th Edition)

The Sports Snob Main

Man, who knew the summer would be so boring for a sports fanatic like me. It should be obvious that while I love multiple sports, I have a preference for the NBA. Things were bad enough for me having to watch the Los Angeles Lakers and their obnoxious fans celebrate, but the prospect of not having a daily fix of NBA news has me in an ultimate withdrawal mode.

The 2010 World Cup gave me a temporary fix, appeasing my sports appetite with a nice run from the U.S. national team, but it also only reminded me that I can’t rely on competent officiating in any major sport. I’m used to bashing the crappy NBA refs but was left dumbfounded with the sheer crappiness of some of the soccer officials. And even that ended with Spain winning and left me suffering again knowing Pau Gasol was busy celebrating a second major win in less than two months. What did I do to deserve this?
