Basketball Ambassador Stephon Marbury and the Shanxi Zhongyu lost Starbury’s first game in the Chinese Basketball Association 102-101 in a game highlighted by its cheerleaders, and lowlighted by fans throwing bottles and lighters on the court. Cedric Simmons hit one of two free throws with five seconds left to give the visiting Dongguan Leopards a one-point lead. Shanxi inbounded the ball to Marbury following a timeout, but the NYPG passed instead of taking the game-winning shot.

Marbury finished the game with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. He was 0-6 from downtown. It’s hard to judge his performance without seeing the whole game but I’ll give him a C anyways. He’s gotta take the last shot. Shanxi didn’t bring him to China to pass to Maurice Taylor in the final seconds.
