Sarah Thomas became the first woman to officiate a college bowl game today when she took the field at the Little Caesars Bowl in Detroit. It’s no surprise that Thomas broke the barrier as she’s expected to be the first female referee in an NFL game.
Thomas became the first woman to officiate a Division I-A (FBS) game in 2007 when she whistled a Memphis-Jacksonville State game. In 2008 she worked scrimmages for the New Orleans Saints and now in 2009 she’s working a bowl game. The only logical leap for 2010 is Super Bowl XLIV in Miami. She has to be better than some of the clowns in the reffing in the league now.
