Ron Artest Says He Weighs 265, Wanted to be 280

Ron Artest is still trying to find his place with the Los Angeles Lakers in the triangle offense and on the defensive end of the floor. Artest struggling with the triangle isn’t surprising. Better players than him were slow to grasp the system. Although he’s not the defender he was four or five years ago Lakers fans were still expecting Artest to play better D than he has so far this season.

Some of the blame for Artest’s problems can be placed on injuries but the majority has to be put on Ron. He broke his self-imposed social networking ban and put out a new video to discuss his defense and weight.. After he talks about his pregame musical selections. Artest says he’s currently playing at 265 but he’s always wanted to play at 280 although he’s thinking of returning to his Defensive Player of the Year playing weight of 247. Only he can explain.

Fast-forward to 8:20 to watch Ron talk about his playing weight and defense.

Gotta love Artest for keeping it real but he’s in denial too. There’s no way he’s still moving as quickly as he did a few years ago. It’s not even close. If he can drop 15 pounds down to 250 he’ll be good to go for the Lakers playoff run.
