Boxer Diego “Chico” Corrales was killed in a motorcycle accident on Monday in Las Vegas. The 29 year old two time world champion was speeding on his bike when he crashed into the back of a car. Promoter Gary Shaw:
“He’s laying there as we speak with a helmet on his head under a sheet. It appears he was thrown a great distance.”
I’m not sure why Shaw started with the gruesome part first but he did go on to compliment the fallen fighter:
“He fought recklessly and he lived recklessly. That was his style. He always cared about the fans and gave them their money’s worth. He was a true warrior. He was what boxing stood for, and what boxing is all about.”
In a strange twist of fate, Monday marked the 2 year anniversary of Chico’s defining moment… His 2005 comeback victory over Jose Luis Castillo.

EASILY the most exciting boxing match I’ve ever seen. Seeing the YouTube video you posted was awesome. I watched with a co-worker and we both shouted, “OH!” when Corrales got that final punch in on Castillo.
In honor of Corrales, I will go to Las Vegas this weekend. I will consume a lot of alcohol. I will gamble a lot of money I can’t afford to lose. But I WON’T ride a motorcycle.
R.I.P., Chico.
