Reason Number 5438 Not To Be Excited About Your NFL Team’s Draft

The first round of the 2010 NFL Draft concluded Thursday night with the biggest surprise being the Denver Broncos using the 25th pick to take Tim Tebow. He’s going to be great, terrible or an h-back depending on who you listen to. The truth is none of the opinions matter until Tebow gets on the field to prove what he can do.

But that’s the fun part about the draft. You can say anything about anybody without worrying about being right or wrong. Like the time Mel Kiper said Jamarcus Russell would be one of the NFL’s top five QBs. Kiper wasn’t even close with that prediction, unless he was talking about weight. Just as bad as Mel’s take on Russell was former Miami Dolphins head coach Jimmy Johnson’s 1998 call that Larry Shannon was as good if not better than Randy Moss. Who? What?

Everybody gets all carried away for instance with Moss. I don’t wanna be talking about somebody else’s player but I’m just gonna make an example. Some of these people get so carried away. I’d like to pull them aside and say ‘how many films did you grade in coming to your evaluation of how good this player is?’

Larry Shannon played two games for the Miami Dolphins. Randy Moss is going to the Hall of Fame. This proves that all you need to be an NFL Draft expert is an outlet.
