No Maria, No Serena: Who to Watch at the French Open

Men pretend to be in to the competition in women’s tennis even though everybody knows we watch it to see the ladies running around in skirts and shorts as they bounce and grunt. Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams are two of the more popular women on tour, but both have been eliminated from the French Open. Who do we stare at (root for) now that Sharapova, the Williams sisters, and Ana Ivanovic are no longer in contention?

The women’s draw at the French Open features Dominika Cibulkova taking on Dinara Safina and Svetlana Kuznetsova matching up with Samantha Stosur. I don’t know enough about women’s tennis to give an educated opinion on who will win, but I do have my own method for determining the winner.

Dominika Cibulkova looks better than Dinara Safina, and Samantha Stosur looks better than Svetlana Kuznetsova so the final will be Cibulkova against Stosur.
