MY BRACKETS AND SOME TOURNEY ISH
March 20th, 2007 | by HG |I didn’t do anything
lame credible like post all of my tournanment brackets and break down each game round by round. I’ll say that I have my Final Four alive (Georgetown, Kansas, Florida, and Texas A&M) and that’s about all I have to brag about… I didn’t have a ton of horrible picks (Texas Sweet 16, Virginia Sweet 16, Wisconsin Sweet 16,) unless you count me having Duke to win one game as a horrible play. Looking ahead I have (in real time) Florida over Butler, Oregon over UNLV in an exciting game, Kansas beating So. Illinois ( the least talked about team remaining..kinda worries me), UCLA (OG) over Pittsburgh (BG), UNC taking care of USC in a thriller, Georgetown sending Vanderbilt home, Ohio State over Tennessee (especially with Bruce Pearl coaching in black face), and finally Texas A&M taking care of Memphis. Oh and in case you were wondering I have Kansas winning it all in my brackets.
Where’s Cinderella? What happened to Cinderella? That’s all you’ve been hearing since no seed higher than seven advanced to the Sweet 16. It doesn’t seem like that big of a mystery to me. The NBA’s anti-young black men making money rule age limit has sent the top high school players to the top colleges instead of to the league. Then you have the trickle down effect. The best high school players are forced to go to college, so then the second best guys start bumping down a level program wise. The second tier players are still going to major conferences just not all to UNC, UConn, UCLA etc… If you take a look at the Sweet 16, half of the remaining teams have 2 or more Freshman that play 10 minutes or more per game. Ohio State (3), UNC (3), USC (3), and Tennessee (2) all feature Freshmen that play 20 minutes or more. Oregon, Kansas, Georgetown, and Memphis all sport one Freshman that gets at least 20 minutes. Florida, Vanderbilt, and Southern Illinois are the “oldest” teams still alive.
