Team USA is holding minicamp in Las Vegas in preparation for next month’s world championships in Turkey. NBA TV aired the first day of practice as part of their “Real Training Camp” series and mic’d up some of the players to let viewers hear how players talk on the court. Brilliant idea.
Fans watching the broadcast were treated to heavy breathing, grunts and bursts of swearing. Kevin Durant cussed a few times when he was featured, mostly because he missed a wide-open jumper. David Lee dropped an f-bomb about dislocating his finger via Stephen Curry’s microphone. It was just like being courtside minus the major dent to your wallet.
@KDthunderup tweeted his apology for cussing on-air:

The NBA posted highlights of Durant at the training camp on Youtube but muted the cussing. Check it out anyway.
Remember when Sam Smith reported that “NBA types” were saying Durant might be better than LeBron James? The race has gotten tighter since then. Durant’s career numbers are similar to James’ career numbers (Durant’s a better distance and free throw shooter, LeBron’s a better rebounder and much better passer) but KD is years ahead of LeBron in “getting it.” Durant used Twitter to announce his contract extension. James used the much criticized “Decision” to announce something he decided in 2008. This article by Adrian Wojnarowsk of Yahoo! Sports details some of the spoiled-brat behavior of LeBron James. There’s no way Kevin Durant starts acting like that. He might cuss at himself after missing shots but he doesn’t think he’s above the game. That’s why coaches and GMs are picking Durant over LeBron.
