• Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao plans to retire in 2009 and run for office in the Philippines in 2010

Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to fight Ricky Hatton on May 2 and if you’re a fan of the Pac Man, you better catch the fight. The word out of the Philippines is that Pacquiao is looking to fight twice in 2009 and then he’s going into retirement and becoming a politician.
This won’t be Manny’s first step into the political arena. He ran for office in 2007, but was defeated by the incumbent which is hard to believe considering his popularity in the Philippines. If you think Pacquiao isn’t serious about becoming a politician you’re dead wrong.
From GMANews.TV:
Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is set to retire in 2009 to prepare for taking on the bigger challenge of being a public servant.
Pacquiao renewed his desire to serve the people, saying he would be ready to hang up his gloves after fighting twice this year and prepare for the 2010 national elections. He is reportedly seeking a congressional seat to represent General Santos City.
“My heart wants to help others. That is why I am offering myself to serve them,” Pacquiao said.
That’s an honorable goal but we know how boxers do. They don’t stay retired for very long. Hell, Oliver McCall’s looking to get back in the ring, and he once broke down and cried during a fight.
