Make Money Sports Blogging

Computer and Money

Way back when I dropped a post about increasing traffic for a sports blog. Most of those strategies will still work for you so check it out if you’re struggling in that department. Once you’ve got the traffic coming thru, why not benefit from your hard work? Most of us started our sites for fun or love of a team but there’s no reason a hobby can’t make you a buck.. Or a few hundred bucks a month.

It’s not easy, and good content/traffic is really the bottom line, but here are the ways I have been able to monetize my site.

Individual Sales: These companies will contact you for the most part but being proactive never hurt. Here’s an email that one of the ticket companies sent out. You get to set your terms with them but make sure you have a realistic value for your space. You cheat yourself if your price is too low, and you won’t make any sales with a price that’s too high.

Yardbarker Network: If you’re a site that’s on the way up Yardbarker is for you. It’s very easy to sign up for so if you haven’t done it yet, stop reading and sign up now. They pay per impression which guarantees you’ll make money. The amount is up to you and your traffic creating ability.

: I know quite a few sports bloggers that are down on Google Adsense but it performs well for me. I’m not making crazy money with adsense but I don’t have a problem reaching the minimum monthly threshold. It helps with most ads if they’re near the top of your site.. Above the fold. Five of my seven non-sponsored ads are above the fold. These are the adsense hotzones although things are different for each site. People have to click on the adsense ads for you to make a profit so again, traffic is the key. More visitors, more chance for click thrus.

Linkworth: You need to be established before signing up for this one because your site’s page rank and traffic statistics will come into play. You’re probably good to go with a pr3 and up. Companies will pay you a monthly fee (that you get to set) to place a link to their site on your page. You can see a couple in my bottom right hand corner. It’s better if the ads are related to the content on your site so “research papers” probably isn’t doing me any good.

Amazon: You’ll have to mess around with getting Amazon to work for you. Pushing people towards it seems to help but so far my results have been inconsistent. December was my best month with Amazon, obviously due to the holidays.

Text-Link-Ads: This one isn’t breaking the bank for me either but it’s worth the effort.. Which is zero. Add the plugin to your site and they place links on old post of yours that you’re not thinking about anymore.

That’s what I use for the most part. I’ll experiment with different programs here and there but I’ve found my groove with the sites listed above. What’s worked for me won’t necessarily work for you so be sure to try out several options until you find the right mix.
