The NBA Finals are over so now LeBron James’ free agency returns to being the biggest story in the Association. No team or area wants (needs) James in its uniform next season more than the Cleveland Cavaliers and the state of Ohio. If he leaves the franchise returns to being a team few people care about. No big deal. But his fans in Ohio may never recover.
The city of Akron held “LeBron Appreciation Day“, in part to say thanks and beg him to stay, but also to present him with their first Hometown Hero Award. LeBron showed up to accept the award when the event was over and thousands of fans had left or were on their way out. Better late than never. He said in his acceptance speech that “Akron is home” and he does everything for the city. I can’t wait to hear him explain how signing with Chicago is the best thing he could do for his hometown.
