The Laredo Broncos of the United League have signed former Major League Baseball player, boxer and author Jose Canseco to a contract for the remainder of the 2010 season. The team plans to introduce the 46-year-old Canseco at a press conference Monday.
I understand the move from both perspectives. The Broncos get a little media attention and Canseco can sleep in the dugout, solving his housing problem.
From the Laredo Broncos website:
In the biggest signing of independent baseball history, the Laredo Broncos of Laredo, Texas have signed former Major League slugger Jose Canseco to a players contract for the 2010 season.
Jose will act as a bench coach as well as DH/pinch hit as needed by Laredo Broncos manager Dan Firova.
A DH/bench coach position and a reality show.. Things are looking up for Jose. And so are the statistics of his new teammates.
