Jamarcus Russell signed a six-year, $61 million contract with the Oakland Raiders when he was drafted first overall in the 2007 draft. Mel Kiper had high hopes for Russell on draft day but Jamarcus has fallen well short of those predictions. Top five quarterback? Only if you start from the bottom of the list.
Since it’s the offseason and having no room for improvement, Jamarcus is spending his time flossin’ his jewels at NBA games. Check him out at the Mavericks-Suns game Thursday night.
This isn’t as bad as Gilbert Arenas mocking his gun situation in a team huddle, but this is a huge slap in the face to Raiders fans. It also seems to show what a lot of critics say about him: He only cares about his money. Once he signed the contract with $32 million guaranteed he felt like he won the Super Bowl.
I agree that Russell is a waste of talent and should never have gotten paid that crazy amount of money. He sucks and doesnt and from his actions on the field and what you hear about his work ethic seems to be somewhat lazy.
But what does going to an NBA game have to do with being lazy and not working hard. It’s 9 pm at night, should he be at the gym from 7 am till 11 pm. The dude has to have some kind of life. I guess since he is a bust he should spend his free time crying into a pillow. Now I think that Russell prolly doesnt work as hard as most QBs in the NFL, but I dont know that for sure. Maybe he just doesnt have the talent. Tim Couch was picked first overall and sucked terribly in the NFL, and I dont recall anyone calling him lazy.
Dont get mad at him cause the NFL allows its teams to pay rookies too much money and the Raiders were stupid enough to pay the man.
This is the worst excuse on earth for a football player. I would be suing him if I was the Raiders. As a fan, I would like to see him traded the Lions for a 11th round in 2021 or later. What a Joke. Hopefully, he shoots himslef like Plaxico Burress. from a loyal Raider fan! Please leave Russell, there are 31 other teams. PLEASE!!
I’m an OG when it comes to Raider fans, so forgive me if I’m not surprised by this. Al Davis wanted Fatback’s cannon arm when he made him the top draft pick three years ago — and an arm is all he got. These pics just confirm that. Sad.
Yeah, he can have a life, and go out and stuff. I’m all for that… but still, all that jewelry is just gay. Period.
In his defense, he never had good protection or good play calling. It’s no wonder why he sucked, it’s cuz the offense was altogether poor. Our running backs could rarely do anything and they’re good and experienced! Jamarcus Russel could’ve done better, he could’ve worked out and he could’ve gotten slimmer but in any case, he still would’ve done poor and we would’ve still benched him and won only 5 games. And in the Raiders defense, there really were no great, standout quarterbacks to choose from. All of the other quarterbacks chosen in that year’s draft have either sucked or been backups. Russel has an amazing arm, everyone else was no big deal. So the Raiders picked their best choice, the athlete. You can teach an athlete to be a football player but you can’t teach a football player to be an athlete.
By the way, I have a feeling the Raiders are gonna be the team to give Jamarcus another shot. No way, Al Davis will give up Russel’s arm! He’s too stubborn.
