HEISMAN WINNERS TALK REGGIE BUSH

Former USC Trojan and current New Orleans Saint Reggie Bush is in lukewarm water. He’s currently being investigated by the NCAA to see if Bush and his family received improper benefits. If the allegations turn out to be true, USC may have to give up it’s 2004 championship and Reggie could lose his 2005 Heisman. The new book, Tarnished Heisman: Did Reggie Bush Turn His Final College Season Into a Six-Figure Job?
A number of former Heisman winners were asked for their opinions on Reggie Bush’s situation. Most of the cats seem to side with Bush..
Ty Detmer, 1990 winner, Brigham Young:
“You’ve got to get all the facts before you rush to judgment. Now if it was the kid’s parents taking things and he really had no control over that, he still had to play on the field and do all those things. You can’t fault a kid for what his parents do. So we should wait to get all the facts on it. If it turns out to be something else, then you make a judgment off of those facts.”
Mike Rozier, 1983 winner, Nebraska:
“As far as what he’s doing now, I think he’s doing a hell of a job in the NFL. I don’t know anything about the other incident, but I do know that he didn’t tarnish anything.”
George Rogers, 1980 winner, South Carolina:
“Don’t go after him. Go after his parents. They’re the one who supposedly got the house, right? It really makes no sense to me.”
Gary Beban, 1967 winner, UCLA:
“But if things weren’t done properly, then you do have to suffer the consequences. You have to be eligible in an NCAA sense. Eventually [Bush] is going to have to say yes or no. And then deal with the consequences.“
Tim Brown, 1987 winner, Notre Dame:
“Unfortunately, we’ve had Heisman winners accused of worse [than Bush], and you didn’t strip those guys. I know that wasn’t done in college, but at the same time it is what it is.”
O.J. Simpson, 1968 winner, USC:
“Screw Tim Brown.”
All right, the last one’s fake.. But you know Juice is thinking it.. It seems like everybody wants to give Reggie a pass except for Gary Beban… UCLA Bruin Gary Beban.. Huh..
