HANK AARON IS COOL WITH BARRY BONDS
October 29th, 2007 | by HG |
When Barry Bonds was chasing Hank Aaron’s record of 755 home runs, Mr. Aaron kept his distance. Many people alleged that they knew what was going through Hank’s mind at the time. It was some variation of “Hank is making his stand against Barry Bonds and Barry’s steroid use”. According to Hammerin’ Hank, that wasn’t the case at all.
“(When) I was chasing the (home run) record, it was all about a man of color. Now when Barry was chasing the record, it was all about steroids, and I really didn’t want to be involved in that. It wasn’t because I had any animosity toward Barry breaking the record.”
I’m sure the people that want Hank to be against Barry Bonds will spin this some way, but it sounds pretty clear to me. Henry Aaron will talk baseball, just not steroids.

I believe Hank also said something to the effect of “I’m sure Barry was very happy about breaking the record.” That’s pretty different than “I’m happy FOR him.” Cracks me up.
