Former NFL player arrested in Mexico

Former NFLer Goes Directly To Mexican Jail Over 26 Bucks

Former New York Jets cornerback Kwame Ellis in a Reynosa, Mexico jail

Remember NFL cornerback Kwame Ellis? Don’t worry, nobody else does either. That was most likely Ellis’ problem in Reynosa, Mexico early Monday morning when he got in an argument with a taxi driver over the bill. By argument I mean Kwame Ellis didn’t want to pay at all.

From KGBT4.com:

The taxi driver reportedly told police that drove Ellis around the Mexican border city for several hours but the former football player stiffed him when it came time to pay.

The 320 peso or $26 dollar cab ride reportedly started late Sunday night and went through early Monday morning.

Reynosa city police arrested Ellis for theft of service and a Mexican judge ordered that the 34-year-old be held in a Reynosa jail for 36 hours.

Kwame Ellis didn’t pay for the cab and got a free room. Sounds like he came out ahead. The cabbie was driving Ellis around the “Boy’s Town” section of Reynosa, an area where prostitution is legal. I guess that’s why Kwame thought he could screw the cab driver out of the 26 bucks.
