Athletes have always flirted with other forms of entertainment, especially music and it usually results in terrible attacks on our ears. The NBA has the highest percentage of wannabe artists, so I wasn’t surprised when I heard former Los Angeles Laker Kareem Rush was trying music out. What did surprise me though, was the genre he chose; R & B.
I fully expected him to go the predictable macho, thugged out route and boy did he stray from that. His new single “Promises (Hold You Down)” is a full on R & B ode to the ladies. He filmed a video for the song and it doesn’t appear to be any low-budget production.
He tore his ACL while on the Los Angeles Clippers roster and hasn’t played since getting waived by them in January, so he just might be putting all his money into music. His little brother Brandon plays for the Indiana Pacers and there’s no word on whatever happened to his older brother JaRon, who starred at UCLA.
