Dan Gilbert: LeBron James Quit in the Playoffs

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is understandably pissed off about LeBron James’ decision to join the Miami Heat. Gilbert wrote a letter to Cavs fans via the team website that’s packed full of James bashing lines like “This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown “chosen one” sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And “who” we would want them to grow-up to become.” Gilbert didn’t stop there. He spoke by telephone with the AP and accused LeBron of giving up in the 2009 and 2010 playoffs. Yeah, he went there.

From the AP via ABC News:

“He quit,” Gilbert said. “Not just in Game 5, but in Games 2, 4 and 6. Watch the tape. The Boston series was unlike anything in the history of sports for a superstar.”

Gilbert went on to question LeBron’s effort in the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals against the Orlando Magic and said he’s been holding these things in for a long time. And my guess is his mouth would still be shut if LeBron had decided to stay in Cleveland. Gilbert was automatically a sympathetic figure because of LeBron but now he’s throwing that away by causing a James like scene.
