The United States tied England 1-1 in their first 2010 World Cup game thanks to this blown save of a Clint Dempsey shot by English goalie Robert Green. After the match Green spoke with reporters which I thought was the stand-up thing to do. I was wrong. Green was just following protocol because he’s accustom to giving up goofy goals.
This classic video shows Green in net for Norwich against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. The goal isn’t as soft as Dempsey’s but it’s clear Green loses focus at the worst times. Like when the ball is in his hands.
