Stan Abel, a former national championship winning wrestling coach for Oklahoma University, has been charged with domestic abuse by strangulation. I’ve called out coaches in the past for their behavior, but this case has a special twist.

In an affidavit filed in district court, Abel, 71, was accused of putting his hands around the neck of his wife and repeatedly striking her after he returned to their Norman home at about 2:15 a.m. on May 21.

I’m shocked. I can’t believe a 71-year-old man could do this. How did he stay awake past 10 p.m. and where did he get the strength to choke somebody? There’s no report of Abel being drunk, and it can’t be used as an excuse if he was, but Stan does have a history of alcohol problems so liquor probably played a role. The judge should throw the book at him, but not too hard, you don’t want Stan breaking a hip.

Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John McCain aren’t missing a chance to promote themselves in their quest for the presidency. Hillary’s been out drinking, Barack’s been doing something he calls bowling, and John McCain… He’s sitting back waiting for his chance to sling mud at one of the two.

The candidates set out to prove they’re not your grandfather’s candidates by doing some funny terrible WWE impressions. I thought Hill-Rod, Obama, and McCain would come across more naturally since Washington is like professional wrestling.. With a lot less steroids and way more hookers.

It looks like I’ve reached grumpy old man status.. I’m standing on corners, shaking my cane, and yelling about these kids today. The latest no good slacker youths to get on my nerves are wrestlers for Woodbury high school in Minnesota. They had a coach that cared about them and had their best interest at heart, but they threw it all away.

An assistant wrestling coach at Woodbury High School who’s accused of offering beer to team members has been fired.

A search warrant affidavit alleges the 21-year-old coach arrived at the Crown Plaza Hotel in St. Paul on Feb. 29. with a case of beer, accompanied by two high school-aged girls, and offered the alcohol to everyone in the room.

Case of beer? Girls? Can you guess what the five members of the wrestling team that were in the room did? No you can’t. They left the room and told school officials the following morning. I’m not saying that anything more than getting drunk and falling asleep would’ve happened in my day but we damn sure wouldn’t have went crying to the head coach about being exposed to women and alcohol… I know wrestlers hate the gay jokes but damn.. Don’t make it so easy.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya have different ways of getting ready for their September rematch. Oscar has been dragged into a court battle by Milana Dravnel, and on May 3rd he’ll fight Steve Forbes.. Floyd’s staying in shape by playing in the NBA All-Star celebrity game, and punching Big Show in the face at a WWE PPV event. I’m in the camp that thinks professional wrestling is fake, but it looked like Floyd landed a pretty clean shot.

I can’t tell you that I haven’t, but you’ll never be able to prove that I have.

I would say John Cena’s statement is pretty much gonna sum up any interview George Mitchell’s baseball steroid investigation is able to land. No amount of links to internet pharmacies or accusations by other players is gonna make a guy come out and say “Yeah, I used roids. What of it?”

Steroid use in wrestling isn’t a newsflash.. And overall, steroid use in sports isn’t new, but you don’t hear anybody wanting to put asterisk next to the 70s Steelers or the late 80s A’s. Roids and PEDs are hot button issues, but MLB’s increasing attendance and revenue, combined with our nation’s love for the NFL, tell me that the general public only wants to be entertained.

**MAJOR UPDATE**

When I wrote this post, I trusted that CNN had shown the interview in at least an 80% accurate light. I was wrong. WWE.com has posted two versions of the CNN’s John Cena interview from “Death Grip: Inside Pro Wrestling”. In response to the actual steroid question, John Cena responds “Absolutely not”. The statement I quoted above was taken from Cena speaking about a broad example.

One question? CNN, WTF?!? I don’t need any help looking like a jackass.. I’m a blogger.. And as a blogger I’m pissed. Bloggers are the ones that are supposed to make up news and fabricate stories just so we can get views hits. If the MSM is gonna start bogartin’ the unethical side of journalism, what will us unemployed lowlifes with keyboards do to entertain nerds that are wasting their company’s time and money reading our blogs?
