Atlanta Falcons-Washington Redskins Sideline Fight

The Washington Redskins are a disaster on and off the field. The team’s condition has brought Hall of Famers John Riggins and Joe Theisman to exchange words. Since they’re in ‘Wait ’til next year’ mode the Skins have nothing left to do but quit on their coach and start sideline brawls.

The quitting on the coach is already in progress from management and player standpoints. The sideline fighting went into effect after LaRon Landry late hit Falcons QB Matt Ryan out-of-bounds. Pushing and shoving followed with Ryan calmly pulling Landry away from the situation.. He should have grabbed DeAngelo Hall. The former Falcon got into with Atlanta head coach Mike Smith and then Albert Haynesworth mixed in for some reason. Read the full story

Redskins Slowly Firing Jim Zorn

The NFC East took a division wide ass whooping Sunday with the Giants getting stomped in New Orleans, the Eagles failing to show up in Oakland, and the Redskins losing to the winless Chiefs. The Dallas Cowboys had a bye week but they’re the Cowboys which is a loss in itself. Read the full story

LaVar Arrington Handling His Business

LaVar Arrington

Former Penn State and NFL linebacker LaVar Arrington is out to prove that there’s life after football. He’s trying to make his mark as a businessman with knowledge he gained from Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder. Lavar’s already been dabbling in the fight game by sponsoring some boxers, and now he’s taking over a bar in the State College area. Read the full story

PLEASE LET SEAN TAYLOR R.I.P.

sean-taylor.jpg

Sean Taylor, a brother, son, and father, lost his life. Let’s leave it at that. The actual details of the crime will eventually come out, and we can talk about them at that time. For now, at this time of tragedy, who cares about past on or off the field problems Mr. Taylor had. By all accounts Sean Taylor was turning his life around, inspired mostly by the birth of his daughter.

My condolences go out to the Taylor family, immediate and extended, and I hope Sean Taylor’s murderer is brought to justice quickly.

TECMO TONY ROMO, MNF, AND DALLAS COWBOYS FANS

The play in the video happened against the Rams. If it had happened against Buffalo, the pass would’ve been intercepted.. 5 times.. I like how the Boys scrapped the punt in favor of the interception on Monday night. It resulted in points for Buffalo a few times, but overall pretty damn effective. Yes I’m hatin on Tony Romo and Dallas. You won the game. Big deal. First and foremost, I’m an Eagles fan so I have to hate Dallas. Secondly, I picked them to cover the 10 point spread in a classic trap game, so I’m pissed at them for me being an idiot. Third..

Third. Cowboys fans. Jeezus Christ. Shut up already. For all of my Eagle supporting life, I’ve had to hear it from the Dallas faithful. The Cowboys, Redskins, and Giants have all won Super Bowls. In the last 25 years, those 3 teams have gone to 9 Super Bowls, winning 7 of them. The Eagles have been to 1. The Birds are the NFC East championship ugly stepchild, and the Big D diehards don’t mind letting you know it…

And so, when Nick Folk’s 2nd last second 53 yard field goal sailed through the uprights, (Buffalo used a teh ghey, right before the kick, timeout to nullify the first kick. This tactic needs to yanked. Thanks Shanahan.) I stared at my cellphone. I knew the call or text was coming any minute… It took a little longer than I thought, but my buddy Newy Scruggs sent me a text message.

NS: How bout dem Cowboys!

HG: (typing dejectedly) I was expectin’ this text a while ago.

NS: I was in the locker room. America’s Team baby.

HG: F*** ‘em

This led to a phone conversation about bullshit victories, teams fighting to the end, Kanye West and the team plane. When I asked Scruggs what he thought about next week’s game against New England he said he couldn’t even think about Sunday yet. He was still enjoying Monday night… God I hope the Patriots beat the Cowboys by 50.

SHEFFIELD CLARIFIES, PORTIS CHANGES OPINION

sheffield.jpg

Gary Sheffield and Clinton Portis have both been taking some heat for comments that they made recently. Sheffield got off the now infamous “Latin players are easier to control” blast while Portis dropped this nugget about Mike Vick’s dogfighting problems, “It’s his property; it’s his dogs. If that’s what he wants to do, do it.” Sheff tried to shed some light on where he was coming from while Clinton is singing a completely different tune.

Sheffield and the Tigers were getting ready for last night’s game against the Rangers when Sheffield offered this explanation:

“Every Latin player, you can’t control. I’m just saying from a whole grand scheme of things, they have more to lose than we do. You can send them back across the island. You can’t send us back, we already here so there’s a lot of factors involved that you look at. I’m not talking about them as, you know, you can tell them what to do and they are going to be ‘Yes sir, No sir.’ Nah, that ain’t how it works. I’m just saying from a grand scheme of things.”

I had a feeling that was the direction Gary was gonna go with his point and I agree with him to a degree. The fact that a team can tell a Latin player “get your shit together or we’re sending you back” is pretty powerful. Carlos Guillen agrees:

“I’m happy he said it. It’s the truth.”

Guillen’s take is similar to Gary’s.. He believes that MLB has more control over the Latin players due to the threat of being sent home. Education is also a factor to Guillen because U.S. players typically graduate high school and may attend college while many Latinos leave school at the age of 16 to sign with a team.

Clinton Portis has changed his name to the running back formerly known as the dog fight supporter. He claims to have studied up on the subject and now has a different take:

“A couple of weeks ago, when I made those comments, I didn’t understand the seriousness behind it. I didn’t know it would affect that many people, didn’t think what I said was that offensive. But after doing research and seeing how serious people take this, I shouldn’t have made the comments.”

I want to believe Clinton but this sounds a little like “they” got to him. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he was embarrassed for Portis when he made his original comments in support of Vick. Then a statement was issued for by Portis shortly after his poor choice of words to calm the outrage but it didn’t work. He now claims to have seen the light:

“I had no idea the love that people have for animals or didn’t consider it when I made those comments. I’m not even a pets man. I’ve got a fish — that’s the easiest thing to keep up. I’ve never been into dogs, never dealt with dogs, don’t like playing with dogs. But at the same time there’s a lot of people who are crazy over pets.”

I’m not a big pet person myself, and I would probably go the fish route too, but making dogs fights isn’t only wrong, it’s dumb. I’m glad to see Clinton, or somebody close to him has figured out the right approach to the situation:

“From now on, I don’t comment on nobody.”

We’ll see about that.
