In the PC era, teams have to drop nicknames that refer to lethal projectiles, but players can still don the names of deadly weapons. Here are some of my favorites.

Pete Maravich: Pistol Pete. His name was Pistol and he wore 44. He was packin’ every time he stepped on the court.

Steve McNair: Mac 9. If McNair has another couple of games like Monday night’s mess, he’s gonna be downgraded to a pellet gun.

Andrei Kirilenko: AK 47. The gun won’t cry if you don’t use it for a while.

Chuck Person: The Rifleman. Woulda been sweet if he had played for the Bullets.

Ron Jaworski: The Polish Rifle. He watches NFL game film through a high-powered scope.

Eric Piatkowski: The Polish Rifle. I say Jaws and Piatkowski have a Polish battle to the death… Last man standing is The PR.

Molly Bolin: Machine Gun Molly. Don’t know much about her but women’s basketball has devolved in the looks department.

Here’s a few that can be added to the list..

Steve Francis: The Rocket Launcher. Stevie’s gonna need to keep it pon lock as the 3rd or 4th option in Houston.

Hank Aaron: 44 Magnum. Go ahead, break my record.

Jayson Williams: Shotgun.

Bob Gibson: The .45. MJ got a little consideration here, but MJ’s 45 wasn’t reliable.

Kim Kardashian: The Bushmaster. The weapon you want if you need to lay down a lot of men.

Barry Bonds: Barry doing this:

Is like going from a .25 (24)

to a Desert Eagle.

TONY KORNHEISER LAUGHS AT JOHNSONS

I’m glad to see that no matter how uptight ESPN gets, they always have room for some penis humor. I would expect that type of thing from Sean Salisbury, but not from Mike Tirico, Tony Kornheiser, and Ron Jaworski.

TK: You just mentioned Chad Johnson, Rudi Johnson, and Jeremy Johnson.

RJ: That is correct.

MT: And don’t forget that Landon Johnson scored a defensive touchdown.

TK: Absolutely. And we have another story later if we can get to it about somebody almost named Johnson.

RJ: Do you know who the biggest Johnson is?

TK: Noooooooo.. (Laughing)

RJ: It’s Jeremy. He came to camp over 300 pounds. He had to lose 20 pounds before they allowed him to practice. Big fella.

TK: I’m gonna let you have that all by yourself. (Laughing).. Followed by 13 seconds of silence in the booth.

I was laughing at the fact that Tony was laughing. I loved how Tirico kept a low profile during the whole discusssion.. You would think he would have something to add to the conversation. I thought Ditka would fart in the booth during the second game, just to one up the A team, but unless it was silent and deadly, it never happened.

THE GREATEST QUARTERBACK IN THE HISTORY OF THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

I’m almost a week late with this, but here you go. The Philadelphia Daily News polled a wide group of famous people to determine who’s the best quarterback in the history of the Philadelphia Eagles. I only go back to Jaws in my Eagle fandom, and I know Van Brocklin and Jurgensen could play, but Donovan McNabb is the greatest Philadelphia Eagles quarterback of all time. The 5 Pro Bowls, the 4 NFC Championship games, the overall winning.. You can’t beat it. No disrespect to Randall Cunningham… He’s the Pater Familias.

State Sen. Vince Fumo: Jeff Garcia. He was called upon to fill in and did such a fantastic job that he must have been the best, because the Eagles got rid of him after they found out how really good he was!

Chris McKendry, ESPN, Archbishop Ryan and Drexel graduate: While I’m tempted to say Randall Cunningham who transitioned the position into what we see today, Ron Jaworski is the best in Eagles history. Before Brett Favre, Jaws was the gold standard for toughness and durability. He also guided the Eagles to a Super Bowl, one of my favorite childhood memories. Besides, Jaws is an ESPNer . . . I’m not about to pick against the home team!

Larry Bowa, former Phillies shortstop and manager: Norm Van Brocklin. He won a championship for the Eagles and he’s led the only team ever to defeat Vince Lombardi in the final game. He was colorful and he was a winner.”

Suzy Kolber, Monday Night Football sideline reporter and Dresher native: As a kid growing up in Philly how could I not have the Eagles 1980 Super Bowl run engrained in my mind, and with Ron Jaworski at the helm. Not only did he play the game with joy, passion and a genuine enthusiasm that he maintains today, but he was the iron man before Brett Favre was the iron man. A true Philadelphia tough guy.

Kendra Wilkinson, co-star of E!’s “The Girls Next Door,” whose mom is a former Eagles cheerleader: Randall Cunningham. He was the first of this new breed of athletic quarterback who could not only throw, but also kept defenses on their toes because he was a great runner.
