The Mayweather family is known for two things.. Talking trash and boxing. And they’re great at both. Roger Mayweather has an opinion on everything, and we know how much Floyd Mayweather Jr. likes to pop off. Floyd Mayweather Sr. isn’t afraid to say what’s on his mind, and he dropped some gems in an interview with BoxingScene.com.

On a Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Miguel Cotto Match:

“I don’t think Cotto would be in the fight to be honest with you. I think Cotto’s style would make Floyd look great. I don’t think Floyd would have any problems with Cotto. Floyd has too much skill for him. He says he wants to fight Floyd, but he don’t really want to fight Floyd. In my personal opinion, I don’t think he really wants that fight. Oscar (De La Hoya) is still the money man, but Floyd is now the money man too. Cotto might get the money, but he might get an ass-whoopin too,”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. would spank Miguel Cotto, but that doesn’t mean Cotto shouldn’t get in the ring with him. Miguel Cotto would have nothing to lose. It would be the biggest payday of his career, and if he pulls off the upset his stock is through the roof.

Mayweather Sr. wasn’t done. He was asked about a Ricky Hatton-Manny Pacquiao match-up, and he’s clearly not a fan of the Pac-Man.

“Is he crazy? Hatton will beat the f**king socks off of Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao, that guy can’t box. All that guy can do is punch. Pacquiao has been with Freddie Roach for all these years and he still can’t box. They put him on the pound-for-pound, he should be on the clown-for-pound list.”

The clown-for-pound list?!? That’s good stuff. This fight’s a little harder for me to call. Pacquiao’s the bigger puncher but Hatton is gonna keep constant pressure on him. I’m picturing a slugfest that never sees the final round.

I thought Floyd would win the fight by decision, but after Ricky Hatton was deducted a point for hitting behind the head in the 6th round, Mayweather stepped his game up. The left hooks were locked and loaded in the 10th, leading to one of the funnier knockdowns I’ve ever seen… C’mon, I know y’all laughed too when Hatton went face first into the corner post.

It’s fight night. Hopefully you’ll be somewhere to watch Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather put on a desperately needed show for boxing. I’ll say right now, I’m expecting the fight to go the full 12 rounds. Bernard Hopkins agrees and thinks Hatton will “out-hustle Mayweather to a 12-round unanimous decision”. More from the Executioner:

“I see something in Hatton, I think he’s the more focused fighter. Hatton is going to throw more punches than Mayweather ever did. The busier, more aggressive fighter, will win.”

Hopkins went on to talk about the high output level of Ricky Hatton and how that will keep constant pressure on Mayweather. I agree with a lot of what Bernard had to say, except for his decision in the fight. I got Floyd Mayweather Jr. by unanimous decision. Ricky Hatton is not to be taken lightly but the overall level of experience will be the deciding factor in the bout.

Ricky Hatton’s resume is all right. His most notable victories are his ass whipping of Kotsya Tsyzu, and his last fight, a knockout victory over Jose Luis Castillo. Floyd Mayweather is the stronger of the two fighters, but Hatton has 31 kos in his 43 victories.

I believe Hatton will come out and pressure Floyd hard. Floyd will have to weather the storm for 3 rounds or so before pressing his attack. From there on in, Floyd’s speed should be able to take advantage of a an easy target that keeps coming forward. When I look at how Mayweather could lose this fight, I’m on the same page as Bernard Hopkins.

“Floyd is considered to be the best fighter in the world, and I echo that. We all know he can fight. But can he still fight like a hungry man? Because I’m telling you, when that fire’s not lit, you can’t train the same, you go through the motions, you can’t think the same, spiritually you’re not the same. Who’s going to be able to suck it up, forget about all the medals they’ve won, all the belts, all the pound-for-pound accolades and the ‘zeros’ on their records? That’s going to be the biggest factor on Saturday night.”

That’s the big question.. Does Floyd Mayweather still have the fire in his stomach? I think it’s there smoldering, and a few rounds of Ricky Hatton 1-2′n him will make Floyd’s fire re-ignite.

The long awaited fight between Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will finally happen on Saturday. Hopefully the night will provide the shine for boxing that Floyd and Oscar failed to deliver. Mayweather lives in Vegas so he should have great support from the crowd, but the Brits travel well so there will definitely be a pro-Hatton presence. Plenty of Americans will be pulling for Hatton out of spite for Floyd, and Mike Tyson is one of them.

“I just want the best man to win and that means Ricky Hatton. He’s a great kid. I don’t like Floyd Mayweather.”

By Mike’s own reasoning, nobody would have ever picked him in one of his fights. I’m not sure what you have to do to be out of favor with Mike Tyson, but apparently Mayweather has crossed the line.. It could be that Mike doesn’t find Floyd’s male rape prison fantasy entertaining, or maybe it’s Floyd’s flashy style. If I had to put some money on it, I would say it’s one of Mike’s bipolar episodes, and tomorrow he’ll say how he hates England and he hopes Floyd Mayweather kicks Ricky Hatton’s ass.. Yeah either that or Mike Tyson’s on to something.

Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton throw down in two weeks at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. It has the potential to be the fight of the year.. Two undefeated fighters, Mayweather’s the WBC welterweight and pound-for-pound champion, while Hatton’s an English fighting machine. Buy this fight on ppv and don’t worry about a Mayweather/De La Hoya type of fight, something Hatton’s style won’t allow.As is the norm, the fighters have been engaging in a war of words on their press circuit. It started with all of the normal I’m gonna whip your ass and you talk too much verbal jabbing.. But Floyd Mayweather decided to up the ante.

The Pretty Boy got the party started with this comment to Ricky Hatton:

“I wish I was in prison with you. I’d make you my bitch.”

If I’m a millionaire, wishing I was in prison so I could make somebody my bitch wouldn’t be high on my list.. Even if I was scheduled to go 12 rounds with the guy, I wouldn’t hope to be behind bars just to say gotcha… Sticking with the prison theme, Hatton says Mayweather wanted to get OZ close and personal with him:

“What Floyd doesn’t know is that I don’t get insulted. But he was very offensive. He told me he wanted to buttf*** me.”

Bravo Floyd.. You’ve joined Mike Tyson on the shortlist of boxers that want to pleasure punish their opponents sexually. Are these guys pugilists or a pirates? Only in America and only in boxing. I’m glad we don’t have this in other sports.. Can you imagine if Josh Beckett said “Not only will I beat the Yankees.. I’m gonna rape Jeter” ? Yeah, that probably wouldn’t go over so well..

I’ll drop my prediction for the fight when it gets closer, but it shouldn’t be hard to figure out if you’ve been watching boxing lately.
