An 18-year-old New Yorker is suing the city for $1 million because police called him “Plaxico Burress” after he had been shot. Christian Dudley claims he was shot during a robbery attempt, but police charged him with criminal possession of a weapon after deeming his wound self-inflicted.

The charges against Dudley were dropped last month and now he’s looking to get paid.

“As soon as I went into the precinct and I had the cuffs on they said, ‘Oh, is this Plaxico?’” Dudley said. “And then when I was in the cell, while they processed me, they called me Plaxico, making fun of me.”

The NY Daily News story paints the picture of a pretty good kid and the NYPD is known for being foul. If they thought he was shot by somebody else they probably would’ve called him Sean Taylor, Joey Porter, Steve McNair, Curtis Brinkley, Steve Foley, Jerome McDougle, Richard Collier, or Darrent Williams.

Plaxico Burress is serving a two-year prison sentence because of the bad decision to bring a handgun to a nightclub. The only route he’s running now is the daily routine of life behind bars.

Being limited to visits from family and friends is gonna be tough on Burress, but he has the support of Harry Carson and other retired players while he’s in prison.

Carson joined J.T. the Brick on Fox Sports Radio and said former players have Plaxico’s back:

You know I’ve, I feel very strongly that Plaxico should remain a member of the Giant family that, you know, while he is incarcerated, many of the retired players will certainly find our way to go and support him in any way possible. You know, Plaxico is a guy who I’ve known personally. He’s not a bad person, but he did something that was really dumb and stupid. And, if you look at most guys, their girlfriends or wives will say, all of us do dumb, stupid stuff.

Who knows how much game Plax will have when he’s released or if he’ll want to play football, but it sounds like he’ll have some solid support until he gets out. It also sounds like Carson is gonna give Plaxico tough-love which is better than some ass-kissing yes man.

But as Lee Corso would say, not so fast my friend(s). Now that Plaxico has been dismissed from the team for the season you other knuckleheads will get all of the press you deserve.
