Michael Vick made his first start since 2006 when he took the field for the Philadelphia Eagles against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, and he had an impact on his first drive. Rookie safety Nate Allen intercepted the Lions Sean Hill in the end zone to give Philly the ball and a few plays later Vick connected with DeSean Jackson for a 45-yard touchdown. The offense will be OK with Vick at the helm. It’s the defense that Philadelphia fans should be worried about.

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback logjam of Donovan McNabb, Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick cleared up on April 5, 2010 when the team traded McNabb to the Washington Redskins. Head coach Andy Reid named Kolb the starter, a move that was bound to happen after Philadelphia drafted the Houston QB in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Vick took over the backup spot as a $5 million insurance policy to Philly’s new leader and will keep his wildcat duties. Or so the team had claimed to this point.

David Teel of the Daily Press spoke to Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg at Football University’s Top Gun camp while Mornhinweg watched his son Skyler workout. Marty’s comments about Vick suggest a player that should be a starting quarterback and not No. 2/Wildcat guy.

“In our mini-camps you could see the great, great athleticism,” Mornhinweg said. “And so I think he’s back, and he’s back because he’s put in all the hard work.

“He’s in great shape physically. So I would expect great things from Michael Vick this year. He’s going to be on the field.”

“He’s one of the great players. Now he’s working to become one of the great quarterbacks.”

“I really think he’s got a chance to be a Steve Young-type of quarterback, where Steve built himself into one of the most accurate quarterbacks to ever play the game.”

Mornhinweg’s Vick to Young comparison isn’t as bad as David Kahn’s Darko Milicic to Chris Webber comparison but it’s not a good one. To this point the only things Vick and Young share are being left-handed quarterbacks that can scramble. This is the Eagles planting positive a positive Vick story to try and drum up some trade value. The only way Vick gets to become a Steve Young-type of player is by being on the field as a starter. That’s not happening in Philly so Michael has to move on to prove Mornhinweg’s point.

The Christmas present Philadelphia Eagles fans want most this and any holiday season is for the Birds to make the playoffs while the Cowboys, Giants, and Redskins crumble. The Skins are done and the Cowboys can finish the Giants season on Sunday, and if so Philly fan is halfway home. Dallas looks like a lock to make the postseason so the folks in Philadelphia have to hope for another Romo playoff collapse. On the flipside there’s one thing that no Eagles fan should want.A Michael Vick Jersey.

When Philadelphia signed Vick people were all Wildcat this and Donovan McNabb watch out that. Those people were wrong. But the Eagles were right to sign Vick. They gave him a shot to get back in the league and prove he can handle the NFL regimen. He’s been fine off the field but he hasn’t had enough true quarterback snaps to gauge his level of play. The reason this is a terrible gift is because Vick is one and done in Philadelphia. He’ll be the starter somewhere next season or at least competing for a job. Don’t believe me? Chris Mortensen just reported during the Arizona Cardinals-Pittsburgh Steelers preseason game on ESPN that Michael Vick has signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. The signing comes after an injury to Eagles backup quarterback Kevin Kolb, but Vick’s role with the team is yet to be defined. More details as they become available.

Some interesting quotes came out of the Philadelphia Eagles’ minicamp on Saturday. Not interesting like Donovan McNabb addressing the media, or Freddie Mitchell saying something stupid.

The players doing the talking are rookie running back Lesean McCoy and rookie tight end Cornelius Ingram. But it’s not jaw-jacking or bravado coming from the two youngins.. They’re in awe.

“Playing next to Westbrook, that’s all weird, man,” McCoy told reporters. “Watching him on TV, seeing him on the games. Then you’re at camp with him. And being in the huddle with McNabb, it’s crazy, man,” he said.

I don’t know a lot about McCoy other than he balled at Pitt but were his parents hippies or is he trying to pick up where Correll Buckhalter left off?

The 2008 season is hanging in the balance for the Dallas Cowboys. If the ‘Boys can weather the storm while Tony Romo’s out, get some help in the secondary, pacify TO, find Wade Phillips a pair, refresh Jason Garrett’s playbook, and get Jerry Jones to stay out of the way, they might be able to go 8-8.

The Cowboys traded for wide receiver Roy Williams to help beef up their offense. I don’t know how his acquisition makes Dallas get back to the run game or get Terrell Owens more involved, and I don’t think the Cowboys know either. Philadelphia Eagles president Joe Banner was asked his thoughts on the Williams deal and after basically saying Dallas overpaid he explained the difference between the two organizations.

That’s great. And he’s right. The Philadelphia Eagles goal should be to win the Super Bowl. Especially since they haven’t won one in franchise history. Yeah, they got a few of those crappy NFL titles that nobody counts as championships but they don’t have a Lombardi Trophy. That’s always the neutralizer when us Eagles fans are arguing with fans of teams that have won a Super Bowl.

Quarterback Donovan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles was a two-sport star at Syracuse University, playing football and basketball. In the video below, McNabb shows off his skillz at teammate Hank Baskett’s charity basketball game.

I’m an Eagles fan and a McNabb guy, and I know the video is from the offseason, but I don’t wanna see the QB of my squad looking like the Nutty Quarterback.. Whooa my lip! Donovan’s listed at 6’2″-240, but he looks 5’10″-280 in the video. Somebody get Andy Reid a copy of this video so he’ll consider adding the quarterback sneak to his playbook.

Watching the Dallas Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football hurt me as a long-time Eagles fan. To keep from crying I’ll watch these videos of Philly wide receiver DeSean Jackson losing the ball before crossing the goal line. He’s been doing this for years.

That one’s kind of understandable. He was a kid and he wanted to show off a little.
What happened last night was dumb.

DeSean Jackson is gonna take some heat for that play but it could’ve been worse. Fortunately for Jackson the Eagles were still given the ball at the Dallas 1-yard line and were able to get a touchdown. I bet he’s out the back of the end zone before he drops the ball the next time he scores.

Jessica Simpson, the girlfriend of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, dissed the Philadelphia Eagles during an appearance on Good Morning America. Many people consider Jess to be a jinx for the Cowboys, and she’s gonna get some of the blame if they lose Monday night.

For the record the score is Dallas 2 Philadelphia 0 in pre-game trash talking. Adam “Pacman” Jones dismissed the Eagles’ victory over the St. Louis Rams, and now Romo’s personal cheerleader is sounding off. Donovan McNabb and the Eagles are keeping it low-key before the big game, but you know they’re hearing all of the talk.

Lito Sheppard, a cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles, has teamed up with the Jacksonville Department of Recreation and Community Services to help financially needy children. FirstCoastNews.com chose to promote the upcoming event, but they decided to give credit to Lito’s wife, sister, or daughter.

Typo aside, LITO’s effort should be applauded. He’s giving kids K-8 school supplies and a chance to win a computer.

Lito Sheppard will greet each child as they receive a backpack filled with school supplies. Participants will also receive free entry into a back-to-school celebration accompanied by a D.J. and refreshments and a chance to win a free computer.

Hard to knock a guy doing a good deed but I will. Kids from low-income homes don’t need a party with a D.J. Hook ‘em up with a back-to-school shopping free Lito. The youngsters will appreciate a pair of J’s more than some guy spinning CDs.
