INITIALLY INTERESTING

macsosamickey1.jpg

I obviously like talking about sports. I like to talk strategy, I like to talk trades. I’m fascinated by the political and financial sides of the game. I also enjoy the quirky, humorous parts of the sports world.

A while back, my boy B-Wiz and me were trippin on how many baseball players have double initials.. Like Barry Bonds and Bobby Bonds or Brett Boone and Bob Boone. The Wolf, who claims to have struck out something like 14 batters in a Division VII college baseball game, dropped a couple too, so I gotta give him a pound. There are examples of D.I.’d athletes in other sports (Mark Martin, Lisa Leslie, Fred Funk), but by our calculations, MLB easily has the most. Here’s a portion of our list:

  • Mark McGwire
  • Sammy Sosa
  • Barry Bonds
  • Bobby Bonds
  • Mike Morgan
  • Doug DeCinces
  • Mike Maddux
  • Dave Dravecky
  • Greg Gagne
  • Rafael Ramirez
  • Gary Gaetti
  • Mickey Mantle
  • J.D. Drew
  • Bruce Bochey
  • Mickey Morandini
  • Alan Ashby
  • Andy Ashby
  • Jorge Julio
  • Jacque Jones
  • Darren Daulton
  • Antonio Alfonseca
  • Bud Black
  • Billy Beane
  • Darren Driefort
  • Bobby Bonilla

There’s a lot more, so feel free to add your own in the comments section… Pascaul Perez, just in case you thought you were gonna slip that one in. You can also add your non-MLB names like:

  • Brent Barry
  • Greg Graham
  • Zinedine Zidane
  • Joe Jurevicius
  • Hulk Hogan

THE ‘92 A.L. ALL-STARS USED SUPER POWERS

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NHVSRuJcRk]

I don’t know what to say about the video itself.. It’s kinda funny, but it’s too fake for me. Everybody knows that MLB banned “super powers” in 1991 so that makes it impossible that Kirby Puckett could have been shooting lasers out of his eyes in the 1992 Midsummer Classic. I don’t know what “Jose Canseco shoots gays from his body” means and I don’t wanna know.

The actual 1992 All-Star game was an American League massacre. Kevin Brown was the winner, Tom Glavine the loser, in a 13-6 pounding by the A.L. Things were so bad for the National League that Tony Gwynn went 0-2 in front of his home crowd in San Diego. Ken Griffey Jr., Mark McGwire, Roberto Kelly, and Rueben Sierra all drove in 2 runs for the A.L. All-Stars. It’s a trip to look back over these rosters. Shout out to my man Tom Pagnozzi!!

I didn’t think their could be a video worse than this but I was wrong.
