There’s something about ESPN that makes ex-coaches forget where they are and start cursing on air. In February former NHL coach Barry Melrose said shit a couple of times on First Take. Earlier this week former NBA coach Lawrence Frank appeared on First Take, saw Melrose’s shits, and raised him a “fucker.” The latest offender is former NFL coach Jon Gruden. Chucky was reading a text message as a video montage ended and announced to the world “It’s a crazy league. A lot of dumbass picks.” Mel Kiper loved it.

Tony Kornheiser ended his three-year tour on Monday Night Football by resigning his post making way for former coach Jon Gruden to become the third man in the booth. TK issued a statement to go along with the ESPN press release.

I’m a Kornheiser fan but his schtick didn’t work on MNF. Gruden was decent on the NFL Network, and his addition says ESPN wants their broadcast to be more game oriented. Knowing Gruden hasn’t been a fan of ESPN in the past the network should have given Chris Rock’s Monday Night Football audition tape another viewing.
