Anthony Gargano of WIP in Philadelphia joined ESPN with breaking news of Marvin Harrison being involved in a shooting outside of a bar he owns in Philadelphia. The details are still a little sketchy, but this comes as shocking news considering Harrison’s quiet demeanor. The following information is provided by Anthony Gargano:

Tuesday at 5 (p.m.?) a patron came into Harrison’s establishment, Playmakers, in North Philadelphia. The man had been a problem customer in the past. At some point a fist-fight broke out between Marvin Harrison and the customer. The customer left the building and Marvin Harrison followed him. At that point gunfire was exchanged, and one man was grazed in the hand, one man was shot in the shoulder, and a little girl was hit by shattered glass.

Gargano used the term “Harrison used the gun” to describe the shooting. When pressed about the word “used” by ESPN he said that the police are waiting for witnesses to come forward and place Harrison as the shooter.

The police went to a car wash owned by Harrison the following day and found a .50 caliber gun in a bucket. Ballistics tests showed the gun had been fired seven times recently. Harrison and his attorney met with Philadelphia police on Wednesday, where Harrison admitted to the fight and the gunfire, but said he was not the shooter. Even if Harrison is not the shooter, there is a law in Pennsylvania that the owner of a gun used in a crime can be charged. It is believed that police are getting things in order before arresting Marvin Harrison.

As I said at the top, the details are still a little sketchy so I’ll update this as more information becomes available.

1ST UPDATE: Philly Police Speak on Marvin Harrison

The police version differs slightly from Anthony Gargano’s story. Gargano joined ESPN’s Sportscenter and said the shooting took place in the middle of the street of a residential neighborhood and that the man that was shot in the hand didn’t not ID Marvin Harrison as the shooter. No word on the second shooting victim.

As an NFL quarterback Peyton Manning is expected to be a leader of men. He sets the tone for the team with his play and work ethic. When Peyton Manning’s not trying to guide his team to victory he’s hanging out in the dorms at UT, talking to distraught gymnast on the phone.

Last year Oregon State gymnast Jami Lanz had what she considers the worst meet of her OSU career. After the disaster, Jami was on the phone with one of her friends that attends the University of Tennessee. A man came on the phone claiming to be Peyton Manning and offered her some words of encouragement.

Lanz didn’t believe what she was hearing, and quizzed him until she was convinced. She then held the phone up to her teammates, who confirmed it sounded like the quarterback.

“He told me that every athlete goes through what I went through. He said, ‘You know, people always used to say that I was overrated, that I could never get it done against Florida, but it just motivated me to work that much harder.’”

It’s cool that Peyton could cheer the young lady up after a bad day, but did he mention to her that he was 0-3 against Florida? Or that Tee Martin led the team to a national championship as soon as Peyton left? Probably not.. The question I really want answered is what was Peyton Manning doing hanging out with UT co-eds? He must have forgotten that he’s Peyton Manning not Matt Leinart.

Sprint Sports is covering the NCAA tournament so they’ve turned to noted college basketball experts Trev Alberts and Marshall Faulk. If you’re watching the video hoping to gain some insight into the Sweet 16, you’ll be disappointed. If you think this video isn’t funny then “like you played defense and I played offense, I don’t agree”.. Trev and Marshall also teamed up with former NBA player Steve Smith to talk NASCAR.. Three guys talking NASCAR and two of them are black.. Either America has come a long way, or the Apocalypse is upon us.

You can barely get through a commercial break without seeing Peyton Manning. He’s hawking anything moving. His endorsement deals have Manning signing off on cars, insurance, gatorade, cellphones, and hospitals. Peyton’s motto seems to be “You make it, I’ll promote it…For money.” I can’t knock him because it’s paying off.

He earned $13 million in endorsements in 2007, a 13 percent jump from $11.5 million last year and a figure good enough to place Manning 9th among U.S. sports celebrities and first in the National Football League.

Peyton Manning seems like a swell guy, and I’m glad he’s gettin money, but why is he the most marketable guy in the NFL? You would think that Tom Brady and LaDainian Tomlinson would be more Madison Avenue friendly.. As a matter of fact, on the surface you’d think anybody short of Michael Vick would be better at slangin product than Peyton Manning. You’d be wrong. I’m no fan of his pre-snap histrionics, but #18 is money when he’s in front of the camera for cash.

EA Sports is holding an election for the cover of it’s NFL Tour 2008. It seems like EA is rolling out a new NFL game every week. There’s Madden, NFL Street, NFL Head Coach, NFL Dogfighting, and the hardest game of all, NFL Black Quarterback. Here’s what EA’s latest installment is all about:

NFL Tour is a new NFL licensed video game that offers players a fun and engaging experience with the NFL and its talented players. Gamers will be able to embark on a fictional NFL road show. With real NFL players as teammates, players will travel across the country to play against each of the NFL teams in newly designed stadiums. As players defeat each of the NFL squads, they come one step closer to winning a NFL contract.
