Nike Using Facebook For Ballers Network

Nike has teamed up with Facebook for a new application aimed at pickup basketball players. Cats looking for a league or a place to get a run can now use Facebook to stay in the loop. Back in my day folks just showed up at the park to ball and we knew the schedule for all the open gyms. Nike’s bringing pickup ball into the 21st century.

“It’s called “Ballers Network and the program allows basketballers to organize, find and track pickup basketball games and leagues just about anywhere. Digital agency R/GA helped Nike develop the application.”

They’re tracking pickup basketball games? I hope that doesn’t mean dudes will be able to put their “stats” online. That’s a bad idea. Guys already think playing once week is a step away from the League, and the last thing they need is an outlet for their weekend Golden State warrior routine.

THE BENGALS GO VIRAL WHILE FANS VOMIT

The Cincinnati Bengals are a huge disappointment once again. Their all hype, all talk.. And a huge mess. The Bengals have had injury, criminal, chemistry, and defensive problems which have added up to a 3-6 start. A record that I consider 0-6 since the 3 victories were over the Ravens twice and the topless Jets.

Putting all of the losing and lawlessness aside, the Cincinnati Bengals have figured out another way to be first in the league.. With a widget.

If you’ve always wanted to keep up with Cincy’s ineptitude and arrest from the comfort of your own blog, now you can. The Bengal Box can be added to almost any blog or website including Facebook, Myspace, WordPress, Blogger, and Black Planet.. I’m serious.. You can add it to Black Planet.. Black Planet still exist? I don’t get out of the sports world often but jeezus.. Black Planet’s still around? I had no idea.. Next you’ll tell me that rapnetwork.com is still up. Black Planet tho.. Time to go check on my page..

IT’S GOING DOWN AT TOWSON UNIVERSITY

Â The South Florida Bulls just watched their dream season go down the drain, and they’re still having a better week than Towson University. Towson, in the city of Towson and just north of Baltimore, is having problems all across campus. The football team is catching drug charges and the sororities aren’t too bright.Two Towson Tiger football players were arrested on drug charges although the police aren’t saying much:

Senior cornerback Eric Clark and junior linebacker Trent Covington, once stars of the Towson Tiger football program, are now suspended from the school after Baltimore County police say they arrested the two Thursday night at their apartment in Cockeysville. Police won’t talk about it, citing an ongoing investigation.

I guess when the team’s 3-4 (1-4 in conference) getting picked up by the cops is a positive… At least you don’t have to play for the team anymore.. An arrest and an investigation are a long way from a conviction, but since the school is so close to B-more, it’s possible these 2 cats caught Wireitus. Cut the football team some slack…

Because the sororities at Towson University are goin wild. Not quite late night infomercial wild, but wild enough to get put on party probation.

The drinking pictures came from before and during September’s Bid Day, when sororities recruit new members. Current members literally tackle the recruits. Reports say that some students were injured in the tackling, and some students were charged with underage drinking, even though there was no apparent evidence of drinking among the pledges. Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Phi, Phi Mu, Phi Sigma Sigma and Zeta Tau Alpha are banned from organizing social activities until spring break.

Sorority girls.. drinking pictures.. Facebook.. Please tell me more. Unfortunately the pics are gone now, but if somebody happens to find some, please pass them along.

HUNTER SMITH USES MYSPACE FOR GO(O)D

We’ve seen the trouble that athletes can get in to using popular sites such as Facebook and Myspace.. When somebody mentions Myspace or any site like that, the first thing I think of is scantily dressed chicks and perverts, not christian rock bands… Meet Colts punter Hunter Smith. You might remember when he signed his record deal, and now his group, Connersvine, has a Myspace page.

Connersvine has an acoustic-driven rock sound that communicates through worshipful melodies and passionate vocals. Made up of Chris Wilson and Hunter Smith, this acoustic duo’s fervor for the glory of God can be heard through their music, both recorded and live, sometimes on their own, and oftentime with a full band.

I think it’s safe to say the Roger Goodell won’t be suspending Hunter Smith for his lyrical content. Here’s a look at Connersvine in action:

The Colts are the most openly christian team in professional sports. From head coach Tony Dungy on down, Indy is a faith based team… So faith based that it’s a miracle they don’t win the Super Bowl every year.
