Being one of the few sponsors not to drop Woods is paying off for Nike at the Masters. The shoe company is using Tiger’s return to promote the Swoosh with the help of his deceased father Earl Woods. In a new commercial Earl’s voice speaks while Tiger looks at the camera. The final question is “Did you learn anything?” Yes he did.. Phil Knight and Nike have his back.

Roger Federer defeated Andy Roddick 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14 to capture his 15th Grand Slam title, giving him the all-time record for Slams. Federer leaves Pete Sampras behind at 14 titles, but it took a record 30 game fifth-set for Federer to unseat Sampras. Unfortunately, Andy Roddick comes up short again but he didn’t lose. He was beaten by a legend.

Nike had this commercial featuring Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Pete Sampras, Serena Williams, and John McEnroe congratulating Federer on standby.

Pete Sampras is pretty cool about having the record taken. It’s probably easy to since the writing’s been on the wall for a few years. You can knock Federer by saying he got his 15th while Rafael Nadal was out with injury, but Roddick gave Roger everything Rafael would’ve. Number 15 is legit.

Infomercial cleaning product pitchman Billy Mays has passed away at the age of 50. His wife found him unresponsive in his Tampa home, but the cause of death isn’t known.

Mays is best known for “Oxiclean” although he did do some moonlighting with ESPN.

In 1997 Tiger Woods wasn’t anywhere near the $500 million net worth that he’s amassed over his career. Being young and needing money, Tiger decided against the traditional adult entertainment career and went the Japanese commercial route instead.

According to the Asahi wiki page the company has had a few different names over the years, and they employed Hank Aaron as a spokesman in 1990. They currently sponsor the Asahi Soft Drinks Challengers of the X-League, an American football league in Japan. Too bad Tiger’s not working with them anymore. I’d love to hear “From Cypress, California here’s Asahi Soft Drinks Tiger Woods.”

Tiger Woods is designing his first golf course for the $1.1 billion The Tiger Woods Dubai, and so far the project is on schedule. Woods toured the construction area and talked about the venture Monday in Dubai.

More important than Tiger Woods designing golf courses is that slight limp he’s walking with. Tiger hasn’t ruled out defending his Dubai Classic title in January, so maybe he’s feeling better than he looked.
