First the Cincinnati Bengals brought in Tank Johnson and Cedric Benson and then there was word that the team was interested in former Jaguars receiver Matt Jones. Sources say now that the Bengals are looking at the poster boy for NFL players in trouble with the law, Pacman Jones.

I understand Marvin Lewis has a big heart and believes guys can change, but Pacman has put in so much work (whether he’s been convicted or not) that it’s fair to say he’s used all of his chances. The CFL figured out he wasn’t worth the trouble. I can’t figure out why Lewis and the Bengals haven’t.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Kenny Irons is enjoying himself behind the camera at the Newport, Kentucky Hooters. He’s talking about weed, buying pitchers of beer, and destroying the Bengals’ choirboy image. Irons doesn’t appear to be doing anything wrong, but with all of the off the field problems the Bengals have had the players should know to keep a lower profile than this.

Chad Johnson of the Cincinnati Bengals plays guest editor in Wednesday’s edition of ESPN the Magazine and puts to rest any thoughts of him suiting up for another team. The man that many thought would never set foot on the field in Cincy again says he could be back as early as next week’s minicamp.

From ESPN the Magazine via The Enquirer:

“Am I coming back? Of course I am. I told my coaches I’m going to California to act, but the truth is I may come back to the Bengals as early as June,” Johnson writes. “I may be crazy but I’m not stupid.”

Sounds good. But please believe, Chad’s only doing this to avoid being fined. He could lose up to $800,000 if he no-shows according to the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, so he has to play nice while still wanting out of the Nati. Here’s some examples of Ocho Cinco towing the company line from the ESPN the Mag article.

“If we want to be like Indy and New England, we have to pay for difference-makers on defense. Our offense is fine. But if they’re fussing about paying me, a guy among the league’s best, you know damn well the Bengals aren’t (going to) give the defense what it needs. So I just said, `If we aren’t (going to) do what we need to do to win, can I please leave?’ It’s simple. I just told (them): `If y’all won’t change then I have to.’”

“Management told me I had a bad year. I was asked to stop being me. Okay, but how does that work? I am what some people would say is the face of Cincinnati.”

“If I can get out of Cincinnati, the sky’s the limit. What could I do in a place like Philadelphia or Dallas? It would be ridiculous. It’s (going to) be like a whole new me, like Ocho Cinco 2.0. Yeah, I like that. Ocho Cinco 2.0.”

I’m a Chad Johnson fan so I’m hoping he shows up at Cincinnati’s minicamp and acts like a professional. Everybody knows he wants out so there’s no reason to poison the locker room with his personal beef. All he needs to do is show up, work hard, and let Drew Rosenhaus work something out.. Like Chad Johnson to the Philadelphia Eagles.

This song is titled “A Tribute to Chad Johnson”, but Ocho Cinco should take this as a diss.. It starts and ends badly, and in between (around 1:30) is the best of the worst. The star of the video loses the beat and tries to pick up his pace to get back on track.. I’m sure CJ is honored.

When I heard “Dat boy good” my mind goes to Coming to America and the introduction for Randy Watson and Sexual Chocolate.

Philadelphia Eagles fans can understand this man’s pain. You’ve got one of the best receivers in the game on your team but he doesn’t wanna be there, and he’s willing to do anything to get his way.. Now that Chris Henry’s a former Cincinnati Bengal, and will probably be suspended from the NFL, he has plenty of time to party and rebuild New Orleans.. On second thought, maybe he should hold off on the parties and just concentrate on N.O. Anybody else find it funny that Henry wants to rebuild the Big Easy while he’s tearing down Cincinnati? What’s next, the Olsen twins feeding the homeless? And somebody might wanna tell Chris (over the phone or by email.. or at least out of arm’s length and with no bottles present) that his friend Rudi Johnson spells his name R-u-d-i not Rudy. He’ll probably want to invest in spellcheck before he starts penning his “I’m sorry” letters to Roger Goodell.

You know it’s an old commercial when The Glove has on the Sonics gear, and the Sega Dreamcast is mentioned. Yes, the Dreamcast. Sega’s last hurrah in the video game console market. If the Sega Dreamcast were an NFL coach, it would be Marvin Lewis.. Better than it’s predecessor the Sega Saturn (Dick LeBeau), but not good enough to save a hopeless franchise.
