I didn’t realize until I read The 700 Level that today is the six-year anniversary of Brian Westbrook saving the Eagles’ 2003 season with a late, late game punt return. Philly trailed the Giants 10-7 at the Meadowlands with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter and their record at 2-3. Then Westbrook got loose and all was good. Read the full story

The Philadelphia Eagles have long been my favorite team. I think they’re too shrewd when it comes to signing free agents. The one time they stepped up it was for Terrell Owens. That’s like a guy waiting 55 years before finally deciding to get married and then his bride is Houston.
The Eagles are always under the cap.. I guess you can do that when you’re paying people double signing bonuses. From Sportable.com:
“Here’s a hilarious fudging of payroll by the Philadelphia Eagles accounting team. Apparently the Eagles paid running back Brian Westbrook his $3 million dollar signing bonus twice, and nobody in accounting noticed.”
The Eagles have filed a grievance to recover the money.
