Miami Heat rookie Michael Beasley hasn’t played an official NBA game yet, but he’s making headlines like he’s been in the league for years. He’s already fired an agent, and he was fined 50k by the league for partying at rookie camp.

Beasley signed with sneaker company Adidas yesterday and even that has turned into a mini-drama for the rook. His business manager, Steven Reed, was obviously glad he pulled off the deal which led him spit the following words:

“Mike has agreed enthusiastically to endorse adidas and wear the shoe as he has done his whole playing life.”‘

Beasley has worn Adidas “his whole playing life.” Sweet. Wait.. What’s that? Beasley wore Jordans while playing at Kansas State? I wonder what Michael has to say about that..

So we were sure that if Beasley made any comment about adidas it surely wouldn’t be that he’s been wearing the brand forever. But that didn’t happen.

“I’ve been playing in adidas since I was 13 years old,” Beasley told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel tonight.

That’s a true statement, technically. But you also loved your Jordans.

Michael Beasley hasn’t done anything to earn it, but I’m gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. He probably meant he has played in Adidas along with Nike and other brands, not that he has only played in Adidas. Because if he’s saying that, as Rovell pointed out, it would be a lie.

You might think Patrick Ewing’s goofy grin at the beginning of this Adidas commercial is funny, but even funnier is the fact that I used to dress like that in the 80s. Ewings, stonewashed jeans, and a fly Adidas sweater. ( I had the green and white tennis sweater and the rainbow colored cycling sweater.) In my day, there was nothing like thumbing through the Eastbay catalog and tripping on all the shoes and colors. Troops, FILAs, BKs, good times.

Shoe stores across the country are rolling out the latest kicks for sneaker fiends. I’m not a junkie like I was in my youth, but I still remember feeling like the world would end if I didn’t get the newest latest the day they came out.

According to the Daily Herald, the sneaker companies are going retro in ’08. I liked the latest round of basketball shoes, and I’m feelin a couple pair of the sneakers mentioned in the DH story.

I might rock these ultimate throwbacks, Converse’s Black Fives Rens 1933 All-Star:

If I bought these I’d rock ‘em with black laces, but I wouldn’t ball in ‘em. You try to play in these and the only ankles being broken will be yours.

AI busted out his latest Reeboks in his return to Philadelphia. They look like some wanna be Js but what do I know? I’d go with the white ones over the black unless I could get some in all black… With “PRACTICE” on the side instead of THXPHILA.

A couple of weeks back Slam dropped the pics of Gilbert Arenas’ latest kicks. Agent Zero and Adidas teamed up with Benihana for the Gil II Zero Benihana Hibachi.

Gil’s not shy about voicing his opinion on the looks of his signature shoes. There’s no way in hell he’s happy with these. And what’s up with the colors? The shoes make it seem like he would play for the Rockets.. or the L.A. Clippers. Hmmm.

I’m gonna have to see the commercial, but the Bush/Becks mash-up is off to a slow start in my book. The comraderie seems forced and Beckham’s leprechaun voice is irritating. The two things I did take away from this video, 1) David Beckham makes Reggie Bush look like Earl Campbell, and 2) Women will enjoy the commercial more than men.

This is better than Dickie V’s Hooters commercial, but I gotta wonder why does Adidas have Vitale hawking it’s shoes? I guess nothing says ”fast, versatile, and responsive“ like a 68 year old man. They should only use one or a combo of these guys:
