As Albert arrived, with an entourage of one, TNT public relations specialist Jeff Pomeroy, there was a sudden scuffle when a multitude of 50 Cent protectors seemed unfamiliar with Albert. There was shouting (”It’s Marv Albert,” yelled a Kimmel show guard, a pronouncement that seemed to have no effect on the 50 Cent phalanx.) There were obscenities. A fist or two flying. A “Don’t you put your hands on me” pronouncement.

And finally Albert made it to his waiting room, relatively unruffled but slightly puzzled. “Did you see that?” Albert said. “I thought they were kidding, but then I realized they weren’t.”

Thank the lawd 50 had his protectors there to keep him safe from Marv F’n Albert. Even if they didn’t recognize Albert as a broadcasting icon the man is 68 years old. What the hell was he gonna do to a ‘roided out Fiddy? Recant old NBA stories until 50 killed himself like the passengers listening to Ted Striker stories in Airplane!? Nag him death about putting on a jacket? Bite him? Oh..

Vitamin Water discovered a formula that works for them and they’re ridin’ it til the wheels fall off. Grab a couple of names from a cross-section of sports or entertainment, put them in situations that we would never imagine, and boom it’s a new commercial.

This time around Kool-Aid Lite Vitamin Water rounded up Brian Urlacher, 50 Cent, Carrie Underwood, and Adrian Peterson at the Ironbound Recreation Center in New Jersey to do some boxing and possibly some sort of water related sport. When they weren’t filming the ad, 50 Cent used his free time to hit on Carrie Underwood.

50 was trying to put his bid in but it’s probably Urlacher that Underwood should look out for. As Young Lifestyle points out, #54 has a thing for blondes(Paris Hilton and Tara Reid), and he’s got plenty of time on his hands.

When Vitamin Water isn’t adding a few zeros to David Wright’s bank account they’re rolling out tight commercials. My favorite is Tracy McGrady tossing the sheep, and coming in a close second is Urlacher and Big Papi playing badminton.

Vitamin Water’s latest ad features stars from MLB (David Ortiz), the NFL (Brian Urlacher and Adrian Peterson), and the NBA (Dwight Howard). Rapper 50 Cent appears alongside the athletes but I’m not sure why. It could be 50’s amateur boxing history, or it could be because Curtis was linked to performance enhancing drugs… Either way, it looks like the astronaut theme is big with athletes this year.

Naming people in steroid investigations is the in thing. Every other week, somebody gets accused of or admits to taking the juice. With the notable exception of Sylvester Stallone, the roid user is usually an athlete.

The investigation into the Albany, New York-Orlando, Florida Signature pharmacy drug trafficking ring has turned up over 10,000 names.. None more surprising than Mary J. Blige and Tyler Perry. 50 Cent and Timbaland were also named, along with Wyclef Jean, but everybody knew Fiddy and Timb were on something.

The best part of the investigation? Check out the name Mary J. Blige used to receive shipments:

Between August 2005 and January 2007 Blige allegedly received multiple shipments from an Orlando pharmacy of Jentropin, a human growth hormone, and Oxandrolone, an anabolic steroid, in orders sent to her at the Beverly Hills Hotel, MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and Clay Gym in New York City. At least one of the orders was mailed under the name “Marlo Stanfield,” which is the character name of a drug kingpin on the Baltimore-based HBO crime drama “The Wire.”

50 Cent’s is even better:

Jackson is alleged to have received shipments of steroids at his mansion in Farmington, Conn. in July 2006 an order was mailed to his residence under the name “Michael Jordan” and also at a residence on Oakmont Drive in Los Angeles. Steroids in his name also were mailed to the office of a Long Island chiropractor.

Curtis Jackson goes by Michael Jordan when he orders steroids to Mike Tyson’s old crib if you like keeping track of those sort of things.. Fif should give performance enhancers to his sales the next time he challenges Kanye West.

The most disturbing part of this report is Tyler Perry.. I mean say he flips out on some roid rage ish.. But he’s dressed as Madea.. As a man, are you allowed to knock him out? That’s a tough call.. But I say yes.

The battle between Hip Hop heavyweights, 50 “Curtis” Cent and Kanye “Bush Hates Blacks” West, kicks off today… 50 has said he would retire from his solo career if Kanye’s “Graduation” out sells “Curtis”, and Kanye thinks he’s moving big numbers already. It’s such a big event that 50 and Kanye will appear on BET together to promote the albums, aided by Stuart Scott. According to the early rumor mill:

Initial prognostications from the respective camps in the Kanye West-50 Cent-Kenny Chesney chart race see the two rappers in the 600k range, each with a shot at beating Linkin Park’s first-week record of 625k back in May, while Chesney looks to be in the 450-500k area. As far as pre-orders go, West is leading 50 by 2-1 at both iTunes and Amazon.com, though Fitty has a 2-1 edge in searches at Yahoo, a reliable measure of buzz factor.

It’s gonna be close.. It depends on the individual’s taste.. Kanye’s joint is a more musical, conceptual album, while Fiddy’s piece is “50 being 50″. My biggest beef with “Curtis” is, for a guy that brags about how much money he makes/has, 50 still has songs titled My Gun Go Off, I’ll Still Kill, Fully Loaded Clip, and Curtis 187. Since we know he’s not getting into any real beef nowadays, what’s he talking about? My problem with Kanye’s album is the same problem I have with every Kanye album… His voice. He’s a talented Diva dude, but I can only take being whined to for so long.

With all of the hype surrounding the showdown, I was expecting more.I try to find similarities in Hip Hop and sports, and I’m dubbing this battle De La Hoya/Mayweather. There was a huge buildup but when it came down to it, nobody got dirty. Nobody mixed it up. It’s just a couple of rich guys using each other to make more money… But Kanye West won in my book.

Jay-Z/Michael Jordan: Jay donned himself the MJ of rap and everybody rolled with it. Both are considered by many to be the greatest to ever do it in their fields.. although Jay and MJ came out of retirement with performances that made us wish they had stayed away. Whether its Tupac/Biggie/Rakim or Magic/Bird/Wilt, somebody will use one of those names in an argument against Sean Carter or Michael Jordan. They’re similar all the way down to their work ethic and figure head positions.

Dr. Dre/Phil Jackson: If you’re having a problem getting your project or your team to the next level these are the guys you want to call. Phil Jax has the rings, Dre has the plaques. Lately, neither has shown a sense of urgency about current projects, and will let cats sit on the bench for no given reason.

 Eminem/Larry Bird: White guys that dominated the “Brothas Game”. If Bird was a teenager today he’d be listening to Em’s “Lose Yourself” on his mp3 player while warming up before some AAU tournament.. Their forays into the front office have brought mixed results. Both lost a close teammate recently.

Young Buck/Stephen Jackson: Neither are superstars but they’re valuable parts on a team.. Opponents get nervous just thinking about ‘em. They will both have your back in a scrap no questions asked, and both show glimpses of greatness that they can’t reach consistently.

Ice Cube/Doctor J: They took an element of their fields and raised it to new heights.. Gangsta rap and the dunk contest are boring now, but their contributions will always be remembered. They get mentioned in top ten lists and occasionally somebody will call them the greatest ever. Does a parallel between the ABA and the late 80s West Coast rap scene work?

Dame Dash/Isiah Thomas: They were critical parts of great teams in the past. Their independent ventures are unsuccessful whether it’s a league or a record label.. Both would get 85 cents back on change for a dollar, but somehow always land on their feet.

50 Cent/Kobe Bryant: Kobe’s balling skills are 100 times better than 50’s rapping skills, but that’s not the comparison I’m making. They’re the two most polarizing people in their professions. Hate ‘em or Love ‘em you can’t deny Kobe’s hoop game or 50’s business game. You never have to wait long to hear their names in the news, and they both go for 50 every night.

Here’s a few outside of the NBA…

Ras Kass/Ken Griffey Jr: Two dudes that seemed like mortal locks to be in the greatest of all time argument. Both are still decent but neither was able to maximize their potential. You have to worry if they’ll get hurt or hurt themselves when they walk outside.

DMX/Mike Tyson: Drugs, jail and wildin out. Check, check and check. Both exploded onto the scene. Both imploded when they reached the top and eventually went to Arizona to chill out. You shouldn’t let either of the two borrow your car.

LL Cool J/Brett Favre: Their contributions to the game have to be recognized but LL and Brett are currently over staying their welcome. Aside from padding their numbers, neither has any business performing anymore.
