Cantaloupe Festival Night Of Fights Ends In Fight

September 3rd, 2008 | by HG |

The Hearts of Gold Cantaloupe Festival & Fair took place this past weekend in Fallon, Nevada for the 23rd and most memorable time. I think the festival is really a big carnival dedicated to cantaloupes, but I could be wrong. It had rides, animals, and food and Friday featured Fight Night.

The Cantaloupe Festival had two fights on their Friday Fight Night card. Some residents of Carson City added a third fight and mini riot.

From the Lahontan Valley News:

Twyla Murphy, 30, pulled the hair of a woman from Gardnerville before knocking her to the ground. When deputies tried to break up the fight, Darwin Hicks, 31, who lives with Murphy, punched the Gardnerville woman and a man attempting to stop the altercation.

As CCSO deputies attempted to arrest Murphy and Hicks, the two exited the fairgrounds but not before Murphy allegedly elbowed and pushed an officer.

Murphy was arrested for misdemeanor battery, two counts of battery on a peace officer and physically resisting/obstructing/delaying. Hicks was arrested for two counts of misdemeanor battery and physically resisting/obstructing/delaying.

I hate to judge a book by its title but Twyla Murphy and Darwin Hicks? Is there any way they weren’t gonna be involved in something like this? They were doomed from birth.

Looks like the promoters knew something special was gonna happen at Fight Night.
