Brett Favre to the Minnesota Vikings Getting Closer to Reality

Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings are set to meet later this week to discuss Favre unretiring (again) and joining the Green Bay Packers’ NFC North rival.

The story was broken by ESPN’s Ed Werder (who got the info from either Jason Witten or Brad Johnson) even though anybody that follows football saw this coming as soon as the Jets dropped Brett. But slow down because this deal is far from done. Check out Werder’s 58 word lede (lead).

Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress and quarterback Brett Favre plan to meet at an undisclosed location later this week to discuss the possibility of the former Packers and Jets quarterback renouncing his retirement from the NFL to play the 2009 season with the Vikings, according to a source with direct knowledge of discussions between the two parties.

The phrases “plan to meet”, “undisclosed location”, and “the possibility of”, don’t scream SIGNED-SEALED-DELIVERED. And even if Favre’s torn biceps tendon is healed he’s still 39. He can’t keep the Ironman act up forever which means the Vikings are an injury away from Tarvaris Jackson, John David Booty, or Sage Rosenfels handing the ball to Adrian Peterson.
