Boxer Kassim Ouma Arrested On Murder Charges

Boxer Kassim Ouma was arrested on charges of murder after a barroom brawl left a patron dead from a broken neck. According to reports Ouma, who goes by Julius Opondo in Uganda, was in a Ugandan bar when the incident happened. Kassim didn’t want another patron to smoke near him, and the conversation led to a fight.

From The New Vision:

“Opondo asked him to go and smoke from outside, accusing him of polluting the air. But Okecho refused, insisting that it was his right to smoke. A row then ensued between the two.

“The enraged Opondo rose out of his seat, grabbed the victim’s head and twisted it.

“Okecho slumped off the bench and fell down. Opondo attempted to flee, but was arrested by revellers and handed over to Nagongera police post,” the witness narrated.

Kassim Ouma’s story from rags to riches is ruined if these reports are true. When Ouma was a child he was forced to fight in a war taking place in Uganda. He escaped that life, found boxing, and worked hard to become a professional fighter. It’s a shame that he might have thrown it all away over a cigarette.
