Back in the day.. Before Alex Rodriguez fired Scott Boras, before Alex Rodriguez opted out of his Yankees contract during the World Series, before Jose Canseco said he had steroid related dirt on A-Rod, before Alex was seen with the chick with the tig ‘o bitties and her Medifast coupons and before Alex was beefin with Jeter, Super Agent Scott Boras helped Alex Rodriguez sign a $252 million dollar contract with the Texas Rangers.
How did Boras do it?I don’t know.. But I do know one of the tactics that Boras used. He, well his staff at the Scott Boras Corporation, put together a sharp blue binder full of Alex Rodriguez stats and mailed it to every team in MLB. The book is full of statistical breakdowns and projections for A-Rod against current (2000) and former ball players.
There are pages and pages like this, mixed in with quotes from guys like Larry Bowa and Dusty Baker. All of it was done to celebrate the greatness that is Alex Rodriguez. Funny how times change.. Fast forward 7 years, Alex has a bigger contract but Boras almost blew it, and now they don’t speak.

ummm….look at AROD now. he’s amazing. he’s gonna crush a lot of offensive records including mr bonds’. he’s gonna do it quickly. you guys should recognize that along with Tiger Woods we’re watching the greatest ever. In their prime! so next time don’t flip through the channels watch AROD and Tiger any chance you get. you’ll be able to tell your grandkids you used to watch the best on TV.
What a complete waste of paper, smells like a last minute jr. high presentation in both its depth and relevance. Let’s hope more players follow A-Rod’s superior knowledge and leadership and fire Boras so we can stop hearing about him.
I can’t find anything on Alex’s World Series stats.
I would not compare a winner who has won dozens of championships (Tiger) to a loser who has never even been to the final of his sport (ARod). ARod’s equivalent in golf would be someone who repeatedly shoots +8 in the back 9 on Day Four of the majors. ARod is the highest paid player in his sport. That’s the only thing that measures up with Tiger.
Man, ARod haters and Boras haters unite! Damn, if that book got him that huge contract I want one of what you guys called a jr. high year book. Of course its hard to find a guy with numbers like ARod. Or for people that blast him for postseason failures (Yankee fans are stupid), there is no postseason without ARod.
A-rod is one of the best players in baseball every year. Yankee fan’s aren’t stupid, we would make the playoffs without A-rod, we would just have to trade and make some moves to do it, but we would still do it. We take A-rod because he is going to perform, he did better this year and will continue to do better. I took the time to read Boras’s binder, it’s interesting stuff. A lot of fluff is in there, but A-rod deserves big bucks, not as much as he gets, but he is certainly the best offensive player currently playing.
I’ve always heard about these “legendary” binders that Boras would prepare, so I was surprised at how shallow it really is. Yet, after I thought it over, the binder is more marketing than substance. Everyone knows that A-Rod is a great player, so I can see Boras yelling at his staff to turn the five page binder into a 50-page binder. “Our client is substantial, so the binder needs to be big!” Face it, he’s marketing his client to extremely rich people who want a nice, shiney object. That object was A-Rod.
